I agree he isn't a captain but himself as a player... he's a 2nd/3rd pair Dman. Top pairing Dman if he plays sound defensively and isn't a pylon on the ice. This team has vets that needed to step up... they all need to be dumped for players who care about toronto. It would be a nice change. Personally im going for the blue jays now.... sick of watching the leafs - jps7878

If there weren't so many corporate people in the stands the ACC would actually be more hostile to the leafs.... I can see people throwing garbage if there were people that actually cared in the stands - jps7878
If the ACC was in Oshawa you could guarantee that would happen. |

I am NOT looking forward to this...the Leafs don't stand a chance. They will absolutely find a way to draft the bum of the top 5 while Montreal probably trades their top 5 pick down to the 8th pick and gets a prospect for it and then selects a gem at #8 while the Leafs mess up the 4th overall pick.

There was an interesting article yesterday in a Vancouver paper about the teams success at the draft.
Let me find the link.

So, yeah... In the end, Montreal drafts a lot of NHL players. Just not great ones. |

For all the advocates of tanking and retanking to get high draft pics
The Leafs in the 80's had a top 7 pick each and EVERY single year that decade, including a first overall and two 3rd overall picks
The draft is no sure fire way to build......... you need to get lucky too |

I still think my prediction is better.
The Leafs get in a bidding war for for Parise's negotiating rights. They end up winning and giving up their 1st to New Jersey.
Parise signs with the Habs after July 1.
THAT is a typical Leafs scenario.
They are quite possibly the most incompetent and snakebitten organization in pro sports. Everything the Leafs touch turns to sh1t. |

Drafting in the top 5 gives you a much better chance to find a "gem". |

I think drafting top 10 should get you a regular NHL roster player... Its all on development after the draft. The kids are scouted like crazy anyways... its upto the organization not to screw up their development into the NHL |

That was a fun little article.
I think it is more appropriate to rate "home run" picks in the late rounds VERY heavily... and rate "singles" in the first round as a negative.
You would see a different story then. At least the Habs hit a home run with the Price pick. The Leafs hit singles, and maybe not even that, with Kadri and Schenn. |

Pacioretty was a solid pick as well. |

well, they've drafted Price, Subban, Pacioretty, McDonagh...
that said, they rarely swing for the fences in the first round. they did it with Price and i'd say it worked. hopefully drafting a guy like Beaulieu signifies a change in that thinking. you're not going to build a contender drafting guys like Tinordi and Leblanc in the first round. |
