7 mil. is franchise player money, not number #1 center money. Grabo is neither, anyway. Take a look at salaries around the league, and you will see Grabo is overpaid by at least 750 k per year. He IS getting no. 1 center money.

all seriousness, Grabo would likely have gotten $6M on the open market just because it's so thin for centers.

Burke simply couldn't afford to let him walk cause Leafs are so depleted at center also, and trading him would not have replaced what he gives the Leafs right now - a very good #2 center who can put up 1st line points when he's hot.
