You know it'S gonna happen.

And if all goes as it usually goes in Montreal, he'll be fired in year 2, leaving the habs in complete shamble once again.

- Pecafan Fan

It probably will. And he'll say and do fun things and that sort of thing. But they'll still suck, agreed.

Pretty much the basis for my argument, yet it seems to be completely overlooked.

Instead we are arguing ONE goal Kane scored that was absolute luck, but whatever.

- Holy_GM

I'd honestly say that until we really see how Kessel reacts to post season pressure you gotta give the nod to Kane just because Kane has proven he performs well in the post season while its still theory for Kessel.

But I wont argue that until Kessel reaches the post season its a difficult comparison to gauge.

Bobby Smith.

Billy Smith was the goalie....and a damn good one too...his violent stick slashes made Belfour and Hextall look like pansies

I've changed my mind. Kessel > Kane.
Also Gus and Reimer are better prospects than Markstrom, Bernier and Schneider.

Only a matter of time Habby....then you'll see...oh yes...then you'll see.

bah. Kane is better than Kessel. Is he a LOT better? No, but he is a little better.

I can't believe this has gone on this long.

well no, ya I can...

EDIT: for comparisons with "good" players, we can always look at how each faired in the Olympics on a pretty good team...

It's jealousy. The extreme and unparalleled demise of the Leafs has captured national attention. The Habs are trying to grab a bit of the spotlight back.
- The Law

They can have the spotlight, I would like to them in the playoffs, before I must be feed; via tube..

I can hear me know, that is lovely mush you have in that tube, pour in some Cabernet on top to help wash it down. Who won, who are the Leafs..

Correct. Except you are referring to Butch Goring.

Ahhh crap...you're right it was Goring not Nystrom I was thinking about...

No, I think you are.

Keep focussing on the one bad thing. You want to focus on the whole issue?

Would you rather have:

a)
Stajan, Hagman, Poni, Pogge, Stralman, Beauchemin, Kaberle, Blake, Giggy, Seguin, Hamilton, Knight, Kilger, Antropov, Lebda, Slaney, Mayers, White, etc...

or

b) Kessel, Lupul, Phaneuf, Franson, Connolly, Lombardi, Liles, Colborne, Gardiner, Macarthur, Komi ( ), etc...

Compare it like that if you are going to take a shot at Burke... It's easy to rip on someone for a single mistake.. EVERYONE makes them.. but all in all we are in a better situation.

Anyone who thought we were a playoff contender, was kidding themselves.

We are growing slowly. Right now we removed the cancer of the team in Wilson.

Carlyle has a big mess to clean up, but there is recovery time needed.

The team is on the right track, give it a rest everyone.

- mfreedman

Since you asked, I'd rather have improvement and btw those names you listed aren't really that much of an improvement. Seguin cancels out Kessel and then some. Connolly and Lombardi are f'n useless and I'd get rid of both of them tomorrow if I could. Komi is also a HUGE mistake and one of many Burke has done. Nobody knows if Colbourne is going to be a top 6 forward. Just hope and pray as per usual. So those players you listed, I'd be a lot happier with Seguin, Hamilton and Rask.

Oh and the improvement since Burke?

Leafs under JFJ and Fletcher 2008 24th overall with 83 pts 231 goals for 260 goals against PP ranked 15th PK ranked 29th Leafs under Burke 2012 On pace for 78 pts and probable 24th overall finish On pace for 230 goals for On pace for 254 goals against PP ranked 8th PK ranked 29th

4 years later, wow, I'm impressed with those numbers

Talbot and Fedetanko are better then Kessel, I forgot...
- Holy_GM

Someone points out that Kane is better than your saviour Kessel, which is true, and leaf fans get their panties in a bunch, just another day on the leafg thread i suppose. BTW no one said Phil wasnt any good or not having a great year, but you of course already knew this before you came running to his defense didnt you?

I've had this argument too many times to count now, but if you truly believe that way, then do me a favour.

Go and take a look at the Toronto Marlies the day that Burke took over.

Now go ahead and look at them now. How much better off is it now?

Also, to bring back this point:

Seguin cancels out Kessel and then some. Connolly and Lombardi

Lets go through it shall we? Bolded is the one i'd rather have

Kessel - Seguin
Lupul - Poni
Liles - White
Franson - Beauchemin
Komi - Lebda (tie, both lose)
Mac - Hagman
Colborne - Stajan
Brown - Mayers
Gardiner - Kaberle

I could keep going...

As for position, there is no instant fix.. There is however patience needed
