Apparently you think the scoresheet is the only thing that happens in a hockey game.
edit: great burn on the Fernandez comment btw - 1979AD
I actually like the Fernandez picture.
It feels like I'm actually talking to him in person.

I have no idea who Burke should bring in, Thats why hes a GM and I'm just a fan. - Leafsfan9329
Fair enough, just irks me when fans raise their arms in protest like "why didn't Burke do anything at the trade deadline!?!?!!?" Like elite players were there for the taking Burke is a good GM but he can't use the force
*waves hand* "you will trade me Lupul & Gardiner for Lebda..."
...maybe he can? |

Hossa did win all those Selke's 10 years ago... forgot about those. - leafs_wingp
I had no idea they gave Selke awards to every good defensive forward. |

I don't know where you got your numbers from but that simply isn't true. Anyways, I'm all for having both and don't think Kessel should be traded. I think hes solid but not the guy who is gonna carry a franchise. His personality won't let him. - PootieTang
Hossa last 3 years - 181 points
Kessel last 3 years - 195 points
Games played a factor... of course. But that's what happens when you are old and your body is breaking down.
But I can play that game too... put Kessel on a line with Kane and Toews and tell me his numbers wouldn't be better. |

I'm not sure people were awaiting a star player as much as just hoping he'd fill the obvious and very gaping hole in net. |

Here is the thing to remember about Kessel, he is only 24 years old.
Before this season began you could easily argue that Kessel was not better than Hossa.
But Kessel is young and improving and this year took another big step with his consistency. It can now be argued he is better than Hossa right now.
In another 4 years Kessel will only be 28 years old which might be the prime of his career. I'm sure by then he will leap frog others that are currently considered better than him.
Heck he might even be better than Jarid Knight some day.

haha I think you got me confused because I was talking about Rick Nash like I repeatedly said in my comments. |

Apparently you don't remember Hossa on the Sens and Atlanta?
What was his biggest criticism? He only cared about offense and played no defense.
That poop comes with age and maturity. |

Can't understand why some of these college guys go this route, but hopefully he signs in Vancouver because I hear he's a beauty!
Leafs need to go after Kopitar, not sure how but he would be great in a Leafs sweater with Kessel! - LeftCoaster
I can hear Don Cherry now, Burke picked a Russian over a player from Ontario fire him. |

Jesus Christ man - have you ever seen Hossa play? Ever seen him control the puck in the offensive zone single-handedly for nearly a minute? Have you ever seen Kessel do anything other than score off the rush? |

Hossa 221 over 3 seasons aged 22-24
whats the point? At very best they are the same type players. Complimentary. Not build a franchise around |

4 wins and 16 losses in their last 20 games
this brutal collapse could very easily make an argument that this is indeed one of the worst teams ever
good pieces sure.. not core pieces tho.. closest thing we have to it might be a complementary sniper in kessel, and an inconsistant d-man in phaneuf.
i'd even go so far as to say that grabovski is the only real core piece worth keeping right now. - Dozzer
completely agree... with the only additional player deserving to stay being mike brown, but not really to be considered a 'core element' of a team.. |

Phil Kessel - Last 3 years = 195 points

Look, it was previously established in this thread the Leafs are set at the goalie position.

sh!t just got real!
This is what I was saying about Kane earlier, everybody loves Kane but he's smaller and just as physical as Phil. On the flip side Put Kessel beside Toews and Hossa, and I would love to see what kinda numbers this guy gets. |

Or good coaching and team culture. It was the Red Wings that made him a player. |

I have zero faith that Reimer will be anything significant and unfortunately in Toronto we need a goalie of significant quality. - leafs93

It really was the catalyst for that crazy September choke. I'm with Texas now, a christian minister used as a spiritual advisor to Josh Hamilton (gotta keep him off the booze). |
