Ok. Let me get this straight with you. It'll be the last time I explain this to you...
He's OUR NUMBER ONE GOALTENDER. The fact that he's elite or not is irrelevant. He probably never will be.
He needs to be consistant. We saw last year that he could. Giving up on a goalie based on a bad year is wrong. - thomas81
calling a goaltender a #1 based on half a season of good play is wrong |

You're going to base this on what, 20 games?
He was great last year and was solid before he was seriously injured. You don't think he can bounce back next season? Boy oh boy do you guys give up on players fast. Schenn, Reimer, Kadri... Who else can we trade for next to nothing in the summer? - thomas81
Dude stop, WE don't agree with your opinion plain and simple. You can say what ever you want It definetly won't change my mind that the Leafs need a goaltender. Yeah Reimer was injured and perhaps that affected his play this year.
However Burke is in no position to go forward into next year on What ifs or the fact Reimer had a concussion, His job is on the line whether he realizes it or not because if he doesn't change this roster for the better people will want him gone. |

The same amount of games that you're basing his suckness on. - thomas81
Verdict's still out on Reimer in my opinion. That doesn't mean a proven #1 shouldn't be a top priority for next year. I would start Reimer in the AHL next year to see if he can get his head straight before giving him another shot at the dance.
You're the one claiming he's the real deal based on 20 starts and chastising people for saying he's a pretender based on 20 starts. |

I think giving up two for Kessel was enough, if history shows anything he will more than likely try to move up in the draft then give it away. As I mentioned earlier trading with the Oilers could be possible, as they could land their D man still and have one step in to the NHL right away from the Leafs, plus another pick later on. They really don't need another forward, and if they did I think Gaunce would be more to what they want up there. - Boosinicka
The only Russian guy I want in this draft is Yakupov. The other has questionable work ethic and the other seems too risky (just from what I have read). The rest seem to be D-men going early. |

But you don't think he can work on all of that in the summer and get back to that level?
It's basically a wash. Throw another young player out the door based a poor second half season by the whole team. - thomas81
All anyone meant was that #1 on your team does not mean he's an actual #1 goaltender.

absurd.. sure he has playmaking abilities but to build a team around the guy is just plain stupid
and you dismiss lupul before kessel?
it wouldnt have to do with him playing a wing he was more comfortable with?
or him being finally healthy after two injury plagued seasons?
no no.. wouldnt have anything to do with that at all. - Dozzer
I never said build the team around him. I just said he makes players around him better when it was said he doesn't.
Look at Lupul's stats before his injury. I don't care what wing he plays on. That makes him one dimensional anyways. Kessel scored before Lupul came and he'll keep scoring long after Lupul leaves.
Kessel is 24 years old. He sneezes 30 goal seasons. Won't be 25 until the beginning of next season.
Many other roster spots available for bringing in a leader type that the team can be built around.

The fact of the matter is that teams don't trade #1 goaltenders. The simplest way (although most frustrating) is to develop them.
Keep Reimer and Gus. This team does NOT have to make the playoffs next year. Clearly we are not a contender yet and that will tkae a few years. In the mean time, why not try and develop the talent we have already?
Colborne, Kadri, Blacker, Ross, Mckegg, Scrivens etc.. Plus our upcoming picks will all start to look nice.
What I want from this team is to ship out guys like Connolly, Komi, Army, Lombo, etc.. and give some of the young guys time to play in the big leagues.
I'm hoping at least 3 of the current Marlies are on the Leafs roster come next season |
