The math has to be wrong.
The East has 152 total points.
The West has at least 120 points(44 regulation wins, 16 extra-time wins), plus any loser points they picked up over the course of the year. With this math, we don't know the total.
Assuming that losses are comparably equal, we can rationalize that the West picked up roughly ~ 16 PTS through SOL. If that's the case, they're looking at 136 total points.
Again, about an eight-win difference. In a small sample size, I'd be reluctant to draw correlation. Need to see data in years past. - Travis Yost
the 16 ot and shoot out wins would be included in the 44 wins, they don't keep a stat for overtime and shoot out wins.
they go straight to the win column |

Compared to Canadians it's not even a discussion. - Boinker
You're generalizing a nation who idolizes hockey as its sport to a nation who doesnt idolize hockey as a sport.
If you singled out Canadians who knew hockey and Americans who knew hockey, you wouldnt find much of a difference. There would be Americans who are smarter than most Canadians and Canadians who are smarter than most Americans, but a lot of middle ground.
The fact that you actually believe that statement and are willing to use it in an argument because another person doesnt see eye to eye with you is absolutely pathetic. |

Ek, why couldn't PIT, NYR, WSH and PHI beat the Oilers? Oilers beat them by a combined score of 8-2. Domination right? - oilersfanatic
Obvioulsy the Oilers suck so damn much that every team gets drunk the night before and throws the back up in the net against them. |

Well that's one player. Backlund and Brodie are nothing to be excited about. The Flames are aging as well. All San Jose has to do is trade Thronton, Marleau and Boyle and they dominate the Flamers in terms of prospects. What could the Flames get for any of there players besides Iginla? - Boinker
Marleau Thornton and Boyle wouldn't fetch much of a return. We don't have on prospect that would be in Calgary's top 5. The only bright spot we have looking forward is Couture |

No they weren't. Chicago and Nashville have way better defenses. The Canucks played the best defenseman in pretty much the league. Keith, Seabrook, Weber, Suter, Boyle, Chara goalies Rinne and Thomas. Also Crawford payed on his head for Chicago. I'd way rather the Canucks gone up against Montreal and Tampa. They wouldnt have had the injuries they had going into the finals. Your a moron if you think Montreal and Tampa are harder to play against. - Boinker
Doubt that. Especially before Oduya and w/o Hammer. |

Replying to the San Jose fan. But if you're displeased with the past 2 seasons Ekland posted, here's a wider breakdown. Since 2004 against the Sharks.
Sabres are 7-2. That's a pretty good sample size. - TheSabresTaco
Thanks for picking on the Sharks to illustrate the East dominating the West, but that probably wasn't the best idea. This might also give you an idea why that Sharks fan you were replying to has the opinion of west > east...
The Sharks have always, for some reason, had trouble beating the Sabres... however, on the flip side, here's the Sharks record against the east since the lockout:
2005/06: 9-1-0
2006/07: 8-2-0
2007/08: 5-5-0
2008/09: 12-3-3
2009/10: 12-4-2
2010/11: 9-8-1 (horrible year, in contrast to the rest)
2011/12: 11-5-1
So, two years of .500 mixed in with 5 years of pure dominance... just sayin'. |

Ok bud. - hugefemale dog77
In the Sabres Sharks series, the Sabres are clearly better. As far as being a better team overall..no, the Sharks are probably better. |

Ya I would have liked to have seen what Boston would have looked like with Chara out and their entire top 4 defense playing with injuries. Not to mention Kesler playing on a torn hip. Henrik with a bulging disc. The Canucks went through three rounds of war. They limped into Boston facing a healthy hungry team. The only defenseman on the Canucks that was't injured was Bieksa. Our top 2 centers had serious injuries which required surgery right game seven. Columbus would have had a chance to beat Vancouver at their state. - Boinker
Yep, and the Sabres were a shoe in for the Stanley Cup in '99, but Hull cheated, and a shoe in for the Stanley Cup in '06, but we had two healthy NHL defenders. |

Who cares about 7-13 teams, bottom line is last year the Nucks were the top team in the West and they got female dog slapped by the Bruins in the finals when it counted.
