Your logic is flawed....sorry but it is. It depends when the games were played, beginning middle end of the season. Were they meaningful games, as in did teams need the two points to get into the playoff picture. Were they during a long long road trip for a Western team which travels a lot more. Etc etc...
Most or at least half of the out of Conference games don't mean as much. The two points are still important, but not like an inter-conference game. - LeftCoaster
Same logic applies for the eastern teams |

Now you need to do the west record because it is not as simple as adding the east losses and ot/so losses together. You will find that some of the east wins were in ot/so and therefore it is possible (I haven't done any research) that the west is actually more games over .500 than the east. |

Interesting, so the east doesn't use backups versus the west but the west does use backups versus the east? - Eklund
not my point at all...just saying that even if both teams used back ups your just proving that the east has better back ups than the west. Also why use a two year sample? look how much changed with just the blues in one year so using last years records is pointless. |

The west gained 104 points - Eklund
57 wins 50 losses 13 OT
127 points
54 wins 40 losses 18 OT
126 points
This is just from this year.... East vs West... 7th seed to 13th seed.
Not vs eachother... but vs the respective conferences.... |

Is anyone really surprised by WSH? They're a paper tiger and have been for the past 3-4 season since this group has been playing together. Poor defense, poor goal-tending and lazy play from guys like Semin. Ovechkin looks like he is quitting on them at times and Green is constantly injured. Their cap management is also a disgrace like the previous Calgary GM.
Why the hype machine (NBC) constantly running on this putrid team? Look at what PIT and NYR have accomplished this season. PIT almost never has Staal, Malkin and Crosby healthy together and they won a cup! Look what Boston pulled off last year. I know it's a bit off subject but I'm tired of the hype around the WSH and really really bored at work today.
If someone picks WSH to win the cup next year, I will seriously fill my cubicle with puke. |

Yep, 3 games over 2 seasons really shows who the better team is. |

I actually agree with Eklund on this one. Who would you rather possibly face in the first round of the playoffs? The Kings, Sharks, Avalanche or Flames? Or the Sabres, Jets, Caps, or Leafs? Personally, the Jets, Caps and Sabres scare the hell out of me. And none of the West bubble teams really scare me other than the Avs. |

LA beats any of the East bubble teams in a 7-game series (ditto for PHX)... |

Well why didn't you just say so... thats a horse of a different color!
-120 is the goal differential for the 7-13th seed in the east... and -60 is the wests.
The 11th place team in the west would be 7th in the east.
I think this speaks volumes to which bubble teams are better... |

The Kings can't score to save their lives and when they do score they end up blowing leads. And the Sharks don't understand the concept of team defense and have far less depth than they've had in years past. |

The East is the better conference by far. Look at last years playoff's, Boston went to game 7 OT against the Habs (a team that just got in the playoffs) and had to fight tooth and nail just to get out the 1st round.
In conference finals they were again pushed to the limit against Tampa having to play 7 hard fought games to get into the finals.
In the finals? That was the easiest series Boston had to play other than the Philly series they played in the 2nd round. After losing the 1st 2 games in BC Boston comes back and easily wins 4 of 5 from Vancouver. The final 5 games of that series were so easy for Boston it showed just how much better the East is when compared with the West.
East is better than West and it's not even close.

Replying to the San Jose fan. But if you're displeased with the past 2 seasons Ekland posted, here's a wider breakdown. Since 2004 against the Sharks.
Sabres are 7-2. That's a pretty good sample size. |
