See this trade was made so that Garth Snow can say see I trade to make the team better. |

Bailey was not a great selection in 2008. I don't think the Isles had a bad draft in 2008, but Bailey wasn't a good selection. The rest of the picks they had in that draft were not all obtained because they chose to trade down in the first round. They still could have taken their guys with the picks they already had. the added picks basically allowed them to take a chance on Petrov (who still isn't here). They also missed on Trivino, Toews, and Niemi in 2008. - Jethro09
Seriously? 7 players or so from that draft are already in the NHL, but you're pointing out the THREE that didn't. |

Price to be named later, basically. I think there may be some deadline for it to be agreed upon but I'm really not sure about that. It's like one step above getting traded for a bag of pucks. |

Seven players? Who? So far, three are "in the NHL" (Martin, Bailey Hamonic), three have been called up periodically (Poulin, Ullstrom, Cizikas), one sniffed the NHL (Ness). The only regulars are Bailey, Martin and Hamonic. That's not a bad haul.
Re-read my post. I never said the '08 draft was a bad draft for the team. It was a good draft for the team. But not because of who they selected in the first round. Picking Bailey at #9 overall was called a reach when it happened and his play since has done nothing to suggest otherwise. Erik Karlsson, Tyler Myers, Michael Del Zotto, Luca Spiza, Jordan Eberle and John Carlson were all taken in the first round of that draft and are all better players than Bailey.
Besides, the point of the post wasn't to critique the '08 draft. It was to point out that while I dislike Brooks, sadly he was not too far off in his overall criticism of the organization. |

You need to re-read my post as well if you're going to comment on my "complaints". I'll put it in caps so you don't miss it: I NEVER SAID THE ISLES HAD A BAD '08 DRAFT. I said that the Isles did not have a bad draft. But Brooks commented on the Isles selecting Bailey #9 overall and how in his opinion it was a mistake. Based on what Bailey has done since he's been drafted and what others drafted after him have done, that's not such a far-fetched statement.
So I guess you never have a negative comment to throw around? If that's the case you're either drinking the Isles Kool-aid heavily or not watching enough of the games to draw an opinion one way or another. |

The draft is a crapshoot every year. Hindsight is an easy tool to criticize

I never liked the Bailey pick from the get-go, as most didn't, but that draft didn't particularly spit out a lot of talent after the usual top few picks. You can't really fault the Islanders for missing on prospects that half or more of the league passed on also. Every year you see some amazing talent pan out that was drafted in the second half of the first round, that's just life. (Read: Giroux) If Filatov turned into the next Pavel Bure and the Isles passed on him to take Bailey, than I get it. |

I dont care if that stiff scores 100 points in the last 10 games of the season, I never want to see him in an isles jersey again. |
