I don't want to hear or read about Weight becoming the next coach (even though the writing is on the wall). If that happens, its likely to set this team back even further than it already is. I think that a veteran guy who's been out of the game for a while would be inclined to coach the Islanders. Therrien, Murray, MacTavish, Crawford, etc. have been out of the game for a while. I think if CW offered them good contracts, they'd take the job. I just don't think CW is willing of offer any coach good money. - Jethro09
MacTavish is a name that intrigues me because he knows all about this team's history and being the coach that brings the Isles out of the doldrums could get him a lot of recognition around the league. He's gotten results before and he's dealt with a roster full of kids with a veteran goaltender and done a good job.
Question: Does he go for the Wang circus? Does ANYONE go for the Wang circus? I've only named Weight today and in the past, because I'm trying to deal in reality. Do I like it? Hell no. I wish we could cherry pick any available coach out there, because the Bryan Murray idea is my favorite.
Obviously, they don't respond to ANYONE on the present coaching staff and that's what's potentially scary about keeping a Weight or an Allen. The one thing about Weight is I'm sure 91 respects the hell out of him, and that should keep the rest in check.

I would say Tom Renney. He is probbaly on the outs in Edmonton and I think he would do wonders with this team

I don't know about Renney. I thought he got a bum deal when he left the Rags, but the Rags have gotten better without him and the Oilers have treaded water. He does coach the young guys good, but ask any Rangers fan...he was famous for taking it easy on the players, and I don't know if that will fly around here.
Wang's 2 biggest issues are money and meddling. Not a very enticing situation for a head coach.

that is true. I guess I am just pulling straws for any NHL coach at this point.

There are only 30 NHL jobs. I would think someone without one that wants one would take an offer. Isles should have an open interview process this spring anyhow.

I hope that's the mind set for an NHL coach.
I hope they're not thinking about the Laviolette, Nolan and Gordon situations. Oh, and the fact that Wang is the owner. You know one thing...if any veteran coach takes the job, he's legitimately all in ready to deal with Wang's bullpoop just to win.

Capuano is one of the problems of this team but far from the main problem. He needs to go regardless along with our entire defense minus Hamonic Streit and Amac. We need an entirely new second line. (preferably one that knows how to score) We need a solid goaltender for an entire year.(not one that shows up every other night) We need a new GM.(one that is not afraid to make a trade and one that can sign legit free agents) Lastly we need a new building. (preferably in Nassau but anywhere on Long Island is ok to me)
Capuano would talk about the positives he saw. Snow would say he believes in this group, and Wang would continue to be silent about where this teams future is.
Did anyone see the start to ranger devils game???? Wowwwww. I love it
Not sure you can throw your team under the bus like that but what is obvious is how heartbroken he was about his team not caring. He held them accountable. Hire this man

I'm pretty sure a lot of Pens fans cite that as a turning point for them, actually. I thought I saw them talking about it once...maybe canadianpenfan can either verify or tell me I'm crazy if he pops in here.
Lol St. Louis is a good team that struggled to start off with. I'm not going to keep arguing the same point, but I will re-iterate it once more: this team is not a playoff team. This team is not a good enough team. Their defense is horrible, with guys like Staios, Eaton, and Jurcina making up half the blue line. Outside of JT, Moulson, and Parenteau, no other forward has 40 points. COME ON. So while I also DON'T CARE FOR CAPUANO, firing him and replacing him with someone else for next year, whether it be Mike Keenan or Doug Weight, is a sideways move because it will not make the on-ice product better. When the team is ready to win, then I AM ALL FOR FINDING A BETTER COACH. But I think people should stop worrying about the coach and should instead worry about finding more defense, or some second-line scorers. Changing the coach should come last. - isles10289
I see what you are saying you have said it 30 or so times... but we need a REAL coach.
You're arguing just as much as I am. The Rangers are good because the team is good. Yes, Tortorella is obviously a better coach than Capuano, but that's not why one team is good and the other is bad. The Islanders will not improve until the on-ice product improves, so until that happens, it really doesn't matter if you fire Capuano or not. It's irrelevant. - isles10289
The rags would NOT be in 1st place with Cappy behind their bench

Not immediately after the rant but yea, he definitely turned things around. Took us from last to a stanley cup in 3 years and got fired midway through the season when we won it. Feel bad for him actually, he's a good coach but I think his message grows stale after a while. I do think he would be a good coach for this team, at least for a few years before Tavares gets sick of getting yelled at.

Hey listen. He is my number one choice. You could see the pain in his face. He was embarrassed. We need a guy that holds players accountable

Then Therrien is your man. Here's a good article about that rant.
