dont forget. How many years Pens and Blackhawks were bad. Pens drafted 1st or 2nd for 5 seasons. we only drafted first once.

If you do believe that Garth can rebuild this team since 08, we are on course.

look at Toronto and Columbus. Open the wallet and got nothing.

We have Nino, Strome, Nelson, Kabanov, Petrov, DeHaan, Nilsson and Poulin still not really making impact yet. John tavares is top 10 in league already and getting better.

I thought this year was going to be year we could make 7 or 8 spot. Clearly Rolston, Staios, Reasoner and Pandolfo did not help.

Sign some quality.

I might not agree 100 percent with the Brooks article, but his main point is spot on. It's about time this franchise gets taken to task. The draft stuff is irrelevant to me, because that's all hindsight, but the jist of the article is true and it's about time it was said. Even if was by Brooks.
The problem is, no one still cares. Any Islanders fan who doesn't agree with the article, to a certain extent, is an enabler.

The problem with us getting the 8th spot is we are by far the most inferior team in our division. 5 teams from one division making the playoffs hasn't happened since lockout.

I got some crap in twitter for supporting the article. While I called out brooks for not having his facts straight, I applauded him for holding the franchise accountable to the fan base which he defends in every article written about the isles. It's too bad staple or other local writers don't do the same in a more fact driven format to really rock the boat.

I don't think the isles are screwed or unfixable, in fact only a few moves could really speed up the process. New coach, two defensemen and a legit forward. Add some people in the player development department and this team could take off for a long time.

Problem is, will Wang allow snow to do these things?

But look at how they are developing? They have no true development coach. Bailey probably wasn't developed properly. Nino shouldn't have been here probably. I'm not an expert but what prospects have really excelled coming through Bridgeport? None. Hamonic played half a year down there. Big deal. Okposo,Nielson aren't what they should be.

The only guy that seems to have taken a jump in Bridgeport the last few years is David Ullstrom. And even he is probably a third line player at best.

I don't care about the payroll, but the cheap out in the front office, development staff and coaching is ridiculous as is the acceptance of losing.

Nielsen is a third line center..he was developed fine..macdonald?? martin?? the problem is until this year we haven't had many first and second round players in bport..bailey tavares nino...all went straight to the bigs...poulin and nilsson are on their way cizikas, ullstrom donovan and de haan will all play roles for the islanders.

Larry is an old bag o' wind. Got banned by Tortorella 2 years ago in post game for asking one of many stupid questions..........and he's the biggest Ranger fan of 'em all.

How about the Mets coverage in the local papers???
Traditionally out of first place by double digits 3 months into season.
Crap attendance for a new stadium. #3 or 4 largest payroll in MLB. No playoffs for almost 10 years.

Isles are two games below .500 and WE don't matter?

Larry, GFY because YOU don't matter. Not as a sports colunmist or as someone with an impartial opinion.

The bottom line is Larry Brooks was dead on. Minus the draft discussion, he was completely accurate.

Nope. I've said it a million times, the owner is the problem. I love being an Isles and a Mets fan....it's either Wang or the Wilpons....shoot me now.

The problem with drafting 18 year old kids is guys like Nino and Strome are too good for the CHL and not ready for the NHL.

I wish they would change the age limit for the AHL... it makes sense.

Maybe with the new CBA.

- jimmc7722

It may make sense for YOU but it would kill the CHL.

The rule was put in place so the CHL would not be raped of it's high end 18 year olds going to the AHL and allowing them to play and draw fans in the CHL. That also helps the NHL from them spending a developmental year in the AHL and losing a year as far as free agent eligibility is concerned.

It gives the NHL a ten game tryout to see if an 18 year old has the right stuff required to stay in the NHL the entire season. Some guys have have it, others, like Nino don't just yet. Chalk this up to a mistake by the Islanders front office.

The new CBA will not change the rules regarding the 18 year olds.
