Really what's their record against the Bruins and Rags and Pens? Those are the teams you gotta beat in the playoffs. Unfortunately he's done a whole lot of nothing against those teams. Good that's great he has a hat trick against the senators whoop de frank seravalli doo and an OT goal agains the Islanders a whole lotta help that will do us in SAY the conference finals. Yup he's pulling his weight and bound for the con smythe got it.

Fact: Briere has more points than Hartnell, Jagr, and twice as much as Simmonds this month.

Why no hating on Hartnell, Jagr, Voracek, Simms for not performing this month???

- Sabreshark

This month? This month? WE're talking about the whole G-damn year! Yea Im gonna hate on Hartnell who's second on the team in points! Yea I'm gonna hate on jagr who is a first ballot hall of famer that frankly is doing what he was supposed to do- get around 50 pts to replace leino! Why don't you get your head out of your ass and figure out what's going on. Briere is on his way down and pointing out past accomplishments mean nothing for this year!

I'm getting deja vu from your comments...what year was it that Briere had the bad season and the injuries and everyone said he was soft, a waste of money, blahblahblah...

It looks like this year it caught up to him. Hope I'm wrong but sorry hes defined the acronym MIA this year and to say he will suddenly turn it up in the playoffs is a gamble I'm not banking on.

Well, I guess when Joe Russomanno says someone's NHL career is finished, it's finished.

HEre's the problem with before and saying it's the same thing as now. Before he didn't really suck. Before he was getting over 20 goals a season when healthy. Now he is FLAT OUT SUCKING. All those other years it really was foolish to doubt him but this year he is showing nothing!

Why don't we stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and calm down. I know it's been a disappointing afternoon in Philadelphia for hockey, and I know asking for sober minded discussion may be a tall order on this particular date, but can we do without calling each other trolls or suggestions of rectally lodged heads?

I just find it ridiculous you're bashing a player who's having an off year, and you also think he's not going to be good in the playoffs, when he is I believe the leading scorer in the playoffs since the lockout.

He had a career year last year with wingers who fit his game completely. He had a concussion this year and wingers who don't gel with him as well. Throughout his "slump" he's still been a professional, and the playoffs have yet to start. Give him a break before you pronounce his career over, Joe Russomanno.

OK and when he doesn't magically turn it on in the playoffs, am I allowed to criticize him?

We all know he's sucking, that's been made thoroughly clear (both on this forum and on the ice this season). Let me ask, what exactly are you suggesting be done about it? There's only a few options here:
1) Scratch or bench Briere, which only has limited potential to provide a psychological spark for him
2) Fantasize about an amnesty that hasn't shown any sign of actually being an option
3) Continue to complain about him without any conversational direction
4) Do what Briere is hopefully trying to do: suck it up, take it a game at a time, and hope he finds his groove sooner rather than later

Look i understand all that stuff you're saying, but here's the thing: it's really looking bleak for him right now. Before he was getting it done in the regular season, for some reason people weren't satisfied with what he is doing.

In my observations, he fails to take over a game this year, he fails to establish chemistry with players around him and he is an absolute liability defensively, all bad indications in my book. Really in the context of this conversation, I'm holding him accontable for today's loss. He's the highest paid player on the team, who in games with playoff indications like today, he has come up empty over and over again this year-that's a fact and is a very telling one.

As has been thoroughly demonstrated this season, anybody is allowed to criticize any player they like. I think it's rather presumptuous to say his career is over, though.

Seriously, option 2. I just think he's finding himself in the twilight of his career and i don't want to be caught with in a scott gomez situation wasting good years of other players on the team's careers.

Oh I see, so you're ragging on a guy who's having an off season, meanwhile the whole team comes out flat again in an afternoon, and he's the accountable one.

I understand he has a big contract, but no matter what he does, he is worth it in the playoffs, year in and year out. Until he bombs in the playoffs, I'm not willing to trash him. This guy has had so many doubters and haters in his first couple of years, and he's proven them wrong. One bad season when he had a concussion, I might add, and you jump all over him.

It's just not right, Joe. It's just not right.
