You can argue they aren't a Superbowl bound product, I'll probably agree. Would you disagree that the Eagles sell their team to the fanbase as a top competitor year after year, though?

HE was up until last year the highest paid player i think ever or at least at the time. A d-lineman from Tennesse that got a 100 mill contract from Washington. He basically went there had a hissy fit because they switched their defense to 3-4 and wanted him to play nose-tackle. He definitely has the size to do just that standing well over 6'3" and well over 300 pounds. In addition he decided apparently not to workout and condition and Shannahan made him take a PT test to see if he could play, which he failed miserably. The skins ended up having to release him. He went to NE and Bellichek had to release him too b/c he's utterly worthless. Wow if you dont know who this guy is you should look him up before talking about guaranteed contracts Roo.

Maybe, But you just dont give players with questionable attitudes long contracts... Please see Zherdev....

I understand how that works, but teams have changed their defense and adjusted to his speed.. he doesnt stretch the field nearly as much as he used to. They sit in an over under cover on him and know that he cant beat them underneath.
- jak521

Again, it doesnt matter if he isnt getting the ball, because like you said... The defense had to adjust for him, which means they arent adjusting for Maklin, McCoy, Celek, or Vick...

Overpayment happens, and always will. Prices will go up, too. It's a good example of real market forces. I don't entirely disagree with you, but competition for a league full of teams will force decisions, that's the cost of success. In the case of DeSean, I don't think the Eagles had a lot of leverage here, he's one of their best (perhaps THE best, I don't follow football so I wouldn't know) players, and they're a team that wants to sell a Superbowl competing product each year.

Now, understanding that the financial battery to that situation is the Eagles fanbase, does that mean they're stupid and will buy just about anything? I'll let you decide for yourself

I think all fan-bases do that no matter what. Pirate fans continue to go to games and support them while still allowing owners to make money for a poop team. No incentive for owners to spend money and make a team good if fans continue to support the team and owners still make money. I know we are touching on multiple different subjects here.

I gotta get back to work. Good discussion.

Its not about beating them underneath. He commands double coverage and the safety has to play way off the line this gives Shady and everyone else more room to work with. Do you remember the days of Thrash and Pinkston? Teams were able to play man to man press coverage against them. You cant do that with Desean
- FrankDrebbin

You absolutely can play press coverage on Jackson. With over the top help. There are tons of receivers in the League that draw double team coverage. Doesn't make him a special player. You don't win with big plays. You win with receivers that make tough catches in traffic. That make plays with the game on the line. That are good on the Red Zone. He's a good big play guy, but that's all he is. He's below average in everything else that a top receiver needs to be. and he's very overrated. And McCoy who truly is one of the best at his position in the League, makes himself what he is. Not due to Jackson.

Now I've had my say, back to Hockey. There's a game tonight.

It's a tough conversation, especially in open forum, because the scope widens quickly to a lot of subjects. I definitely enjoyed the discussion though

Amen! I saw folks on page 1 saying Kubina is back, any truth to this? I may have missed something, but I didn't think I saw his name in the blob.

Uh isn't that what the Eagles gave Jackson who has displayed questionable attitude? Also I don't know how pointing out Zheredev weakens my anti-guaranteed contract statements.

Because the Flyers only gave him a 1 year deal... And IMO, in the scope of how some NFL players handle such contract disputes, Jackson handled his in a mild/moderate fashion.

He's not on the ice for today's morning skate - so I would say he's doubtful for tonight.

IF we could get both back for the weekend I think a four point weekend is doable.

I do. If you have a CB and a Safty covering D-jack, that means you now have 1-on-1 coverage and open gaps in the field for the other guys. It also makes it VERY difficult to "spy" on Vick because that opens up another player....

D-jack may only catch 1 to 2 passes a game, but defenses have to play him every play, because on any play that 1 catch could be 30, 60, 90 yards and a quick score...

Yeah Crosby comes back vs. the Rangers. It is all over the news. I am so glad the season has finally started! Nothing like a good Crosby love-fest to let people know there is more than just golf out there in the world

So basically your saying his speed can be defended just like every other receiver in the league? Funny how the Eagles who usually wont part with a nickle will pay a "overrated" receiver (a position they never valued) 15 million guaranteed. I actually cant stand Desean but he brings a lot more to the table then what people give him credit for.

YEa I did and feel sick. caught me off guard. I can't wait until one of those players gets an attorney or even the team, and sues him for slander like the Flyers did to WIP. He hasn't made enough money yet but it will happen.
