I think Tortarella is recognized as a very good coach, but one that is pretty consistently tough on his players. He kinda reminds me of Therrien, excpect he's less of a jerk. Some players respond very well to this kind of pressure (ie, the 'I'm not your friend, I'm you coach approach') & love the results it can bring (ie, Brad Richards), but it can also mess up a player he's consistently ends up in the coach's dog house and can't figure out how to get out. Tortarella seems to provide the fire that drives his team forward more than most coaches.

Bylsma seems to take a more professional approach. I don't know if i've ever heard him yell or scream at a player for messing up. He just seems to sit them down, tell them that they screwed up, and to do better next next time. He treats his players like adults and expects them to be adults (ie, you make a mistake, you live with the consequences of it) in return. The downside of this approach is if the player/team isn't professional they can just be a huge baby and whine, moan, and complain all day long. Think of why we all didn't want Jagr on the team if he was going to be his usual drama-queen self.

Both approaches have their merits; I think it just comes down to what type of players you have on your team. Tortarella works for the Rangers as he cuts through all the NY media crap and brings the players down to earh like a rock if they don't do their job. He seems to want the W so badly that it drives his teams to want it too. Bylsma is just seems to be honest and upfront with his player. They have a job to do and he exepcts them to do it; If not, he'll hold them accountable for the consequences.

Each style can work... for Bylsma's style to work, he needs to have low maintenance players who act like professionals (and team leaders who stress that).

While Torts' style obviously can produce great results, he (and coaches like him) have short shelf lives with teams. It seems like the calculated yelling and the generally gruff personality lose their effectiveness after a while.

Oh please, I invited you to a game and this is how I'm repaid? You can go to a club afterwords, maybe catch a Broadway show, it'll be great fun!

In all seriousness, good luck tonight.

Torts is a good coach, but like Therrien, he has a limited shelf life. Players will tune him out sooner rather than later. I just hate coaches that get all emotional with every call or play. Like I got so sick of Bill Cowher with all his antics, contortions and spittle.

After the events of the Winter Classic, I think Ranger fans might want to meet in Scranton instead of Philly

I'll take some of the blame, but there was a rag fan here before my comments. I was just having a little fun to get a reaction.

Awesome sports day/weekend

Williams decision for Bills, Manning decision, March Maddness, NBA Trade deadline (yes, the NBA isn't a cup of tea for all of us....but trade deadlines are always interesting) and Pens/Rags.

Let's really up the hate for NY fans. Anyone want to share their thoughts on Graves slash of Mario's wrist? And they cry about Cooke's dirty play!!

I don't get the criticism of Torts. I think he handles the refs well. He is generally very calm when speaking with them during the game. Every coach in the league gets upset at the officiating from time to time. I'm sure Bylsma doesn't always just smile and wink when a a call goes against the Pens.

And as for Cooke, I have to admit he's done a great job changing his game but it's a case of too little too late. He's done too much damage to get a pass from fans of other teams. Similar to how pretty much everyone feels/felt about Avery.

I think by the end of the night it will be as high as possible.

Who do you like to win it all? I'm going upset with Florida State. They really impressed me in the ACC tourney.

I have Kentucky losing to F.State in the final. The other 2 in my final four are Kansas and Mich.State. So I'm not much that much of a risk taker either
