On paper and potentially Seguin and Hamilton are nicer but as of right now only 1 of them is in the NHL and Kessel is outscoring him.

I don't think Seguin gets anywhere near the points he is getting now in Leafland where Kessel you could say he might have more in Beantown.

The trade can't be determined for years.

- leafs93

seguin is on pace for about 70 points in his 2nd season Kessel had 37 ... Kessel being a 35 goal scorer today is not helping us win any more... what good is it when his prime years are spent golfing.

The trade has been determined long before we hoped it would be

This and maybe we'd have lottery sucked instead of 9th/10th sucked the past couple years while Seguin developed his game and Dougie Hamilton would be Landeskog or even the Nuge. Trying to jumpstart the rebuild with Kessel was and is a huge and massive failure.

burke is all about "character" tho.. so if the toss up is between a north american player and a russian player who do you think burke will pick?

my guess is he will go with the north american nearly everytime.

the leafs have what? 4 euros?

grabovski, kulemin, gustavsson, and gunnarsson

burke is responsible for bringing in one of them.

- Dozzer

he drafted the sedins...thats the great part about being in the top 5...its pretty much laid out for you who you should pick... hopefully its #3 and Burke doesnt have to make a choice... just go through the motions

I guess trying to figure out what happened to Subban in the Habs threads has gotten boring?

The flaw in this logic is that you are implicitly acknowledging Kessel's significant impact in making us a better team.

Isn't it proof of his value that he could be single-handedly responsible for a 7-8 position difference in the standings?

100% ... I am over it, and can admit it was a very big mistake for our team

I am still baffled as to how burke thought kessel would be an effective forward to build around without any other pieces in place.

We all are. He really did honestly believe Kessell made them a near-playoff team with just a few remaining pieces to add and Boston would end up with mid round picks.

perhaps overstating the Kessel effect.. but still

Seguin with Huberdeau, Larsson, Strome, Couturier, Hamilton ..take your pick

I just got my copy of THN prospect rankings... Hamilton is #3 out of all the prospects

...anyways...

i refuse to get my hopes up til the end of the season

there are still two very big risks

1: the leafs go on their typical late season push leaving them around 20th overall

2: burke will flip the pick in a trade for a "proven" player

its a very long road til the leafs hit the podium at the draft yet

No, it's not actually - it's a legitimate maybe. I can't determine what influence on the standings Kessel's spot on the roster had over the past couple of years, but it's quite possible they would have lost a lot more without him.

It's a lot easier for a player to help a team move from 15th to 9th in the standings than it is from 9th to say 6th.

I like you felt the late season surge to 9th in the East was an inevitability.... until the PITT game. Then I got the feeling they'd come close to losing out the rest of the season. My biggest fear now is that Burke would still believe they're "close" even if they finish 14th/15th, and trade that lottery pick for a quick fix.

I just looked through the top prospects ranking at http://www.hockeysfuture..../hockey_top_50_prospects/
, not sure if its been updated in a while but I was surprised to see how high they ranked kadri. Looking at a lot of the other prospects behind kadri I could see kadri not even making the list if it was done again today.

What can i say, I'm an attention seeker, I missed my calling as a typical habs fan
(like Shinebox).

Seeing as there is nothing to lose at this point and the current lines aren't getting it done, can we please see once and for all if Grabo can be Kessel's centre? New coach, new system, new approach?

*for tank nation, even if the experiment works, don't worry, our goalies and other three lines will manage to screw things up enough that we still lose.

He'll be in the 25-30 range still for the spring ranking.....after the 2012 draft he might fall farther back or off it.

You can't use that argument soleby because, Seguin plays for the Bruins.

His role is a supplemental role currently....... Kessel's isn't
