We need a high end Center to even start a discussion...Toronto needs to find a way to secure the best C prospect available this draft... they are currently doing that by losing every game....just need to stay on task - senstroll
will Burke draft a russian tho?
i certainly wouldnt mind Galchenyuk... the American russian.. that would be a burke type russian for sure lol |

I guess my point being that our 3rd line sucks now.
If we take Kule and Mac and put them on the 3rd line then it injects some offense and they are still good defensively.
Then we shore up our 2nd line with maybe a guy like Parise and suddenly we have some balanced scoring.
I still see use for those guys. - leafs93
I see use for Kuli and Mac on a 3rd line too. They're both good for that role. However, players to fill those roles are a hell of a lot easier to acquire than a young superstar.

He's also Belarussian, so Grabo could take him under his wing and teach him how to drop Habs fans and their wives if things ever get out of hand in any of the local establishments. |

I'm ok with Kessel. Yeah sure Seguin and Hamilton would look nice, but a 40 goal scorer isn't anything to shake a stick at. Don't tell me Jared Knight. (Greg McKegg is better than Knight)
And likely we would have drafted Ross with that pick anyway.
The Gardiner/Lupul and Kaberle trades made up a little bit for the Kessel deal.
Still... get rid of the fat, I couldn't care less "veterans" and go with mostly youth next season.
Also... Get a MOTHER (frank)EN VETERAN BACKUP and/or dump Francois Allaire! - leafs_wingp
This thinking is all flawed.... Later trades do not make up for the Kessel debacle.
In one breath you say you are OK with it, but then have to feel better "making up for it"
Its ok to admit the Kessel deal was a disaster for the leafs. he is a fine player but I dont think you should build around him, hes a nice piece but Sequin is nicer with Hamilton all day long

I like him too and thought that's where we'd end up. I wonder if Colorado will unite him with his brother. We'll see where we end up amigo. - mykokes
i would be more than happy if toronto walked away from the draft with him

Yak is a winger and I doubt columbus moves that pick.. unless some miracle that someone else wins the #1 pick...Yakupov is a Jacket.
I think Montreal needs a Center as well... Edm needs D .... somehow we need to suck more than Montreal..or get lucky and jump them with the lottery win - senstroll
Looking at the standings this morning, I would say CBJ for sure we can't catch and an outside chance of catching EDM.
I think 3rd last is definitely doable and maybe inevitable.
I would expect EDM to take Dumba since they are loaded at forward.
Could leave us with a good position to get a good forward.

If he wouldnt take a player simply because his name sounds Russian..he needs to go sooner than later before the leafs end up in the AHL because they cant compete with Columbus.

Hopefully it comes down to the last game of the season. Price will have "the flu" and Reimer will be wearing bantam goalie pads, and Mike Brown and Ryan White will see the most ice time of any forwards. It's will be interesting. |

Pfft, Kessel's going to play all 60 minutes to get to 40 goals. Final score: Montreal 12 Phil Kessel 4 |

On paper and potentially Seguin and Hamilton are nicer but as of right now only 1 of them is in the NHL and Kessel is outscoring him.
I don't think Seguin gets anywhere near the points he is getting now in Leafland where Kessel you could say he might have more in Beantown.
The trade can't be determined for years.

burke is all about "character" tho.. so if the toss up is between a north american player and a russian player who do you think burke will pick?
my guess is he will go with the north american nearly everytime.
the leafs have what? 4 euros?
grabovski, kulemin, gustavsson, and gunnarsson
burke is responsible for bringing in one of them. |

That would be a win win! He'd finally be that "40 goal scorer" Leaf fans call him and we'd stick it to the Habs |

I like him too, he`s looked really good out there in the few games he`s played in however I`ve already seen a lot of fans on here talking up his potential as if he`s going to be a big impact player. A lot of fans wouldn`t be nearly as disappointed if they just evaluated their players more realistically |
