I hear ya...but hes still an unproven, inexperienced goalie, whos 23 and has a lot to learn. Ive hated Gus since his stick smashing days. - noename09
So must really not like Rask. |

Oh I almost forgot, I liked how Reimer pointed at the one guy who scored the PP goal on the deflection as to say 'hey, that guy deflected it'.
You'd think Reimer forgot that deflections are allowed in hockey. |

I don't trust Halak ....he was a streaky guy in Mtl and he had a bad start in StL ...now he looks like da bomb again with Hitchc0ck.
Schneider is bigger and has had a nice progression. I think he might fit Allaire's magic formula a little better too.
Either of those guys probably costs a good young player and a young g'tender? - The Law
I think the question is moot as it takes two to dance. I can't see St. Louis having any interest in trading Halak. Especially after they just moved Bishop.
Schneider on the other hand is likely available this summer. It will just be a question of how much a team is willing to give up for him.

No I think he was showing some frustration and yelling Hey how about someone clear the (frank)ing dude from in front of me. |

I don't know. Depends on how much faith they have in Reim.... I mean Elliott.
If Toronto misses out on a #1 center early in the draft by the time their pick comes around then they should dangle it to STL with maybe Franson and see what comes of it.

We need a Miracle to get a top goalie... Toronto hasnt developed a decent one since ...ummm potvin?
We gave away Rask....
the top 3 goalies in the NHL were drafted late... real late Rinne 258, Lunqqvist 205, Thomas 217
so ya... a miracle
this team is a mess |

The guy you could go after from the Blues is Jake Allen. A former 1st round pick he was their top goalie prospect going into this season. Bishop had a monster year and blew by him but he is still considered a blue chip goalie prospect. With both Halak and Elliott signed they might be willing to move him.
Problem for the Leafs is that he is probably a year or two away from being ready to take on a fulltime NHL role.

Key word in your post being 'developed'.
Right now they are undeveloping goalies at the NHL level.

I dont know how much competitive hockey you've played...but when youre goalie smashes his stick and yells and cant keep his cool, your confidence level in him tends to drop. |

Yeah we don't need anymore developing goaltenders, we need 1 that can play now and is good. |

I think it's a pretty realistic concern that Burke trades our potential lotto pick for Nash... - Mr_Smokey
We'll know soon enough were the leafs will be picking.
If it's top 5 I thinkburke keeps the pick
otherwise I think he trades pick + for Brown & Bernier from LA. |

I've played lots.
Depends on the player. Some guys get angry with themselves and it is like a wake up call and suddenly they get really focused because they don't want what happened to happen again. I see that lots but it is impossible for anyone to tell unless you are on the ice with them.
If nothing else, it shows he cares about making the stops. What I don't like is goalies pointing at dmen after a goal. That usually happens right before they stop blocking shots for you.

we have goalies who can be good in a few years...some that can be great...but we cant afford to keep gambling on goalies with zero experience to lead the team. Its frustrating. |

thomas is a yelly-smasher ...lots of other guys too.
I think the problem is when they let pucks in ...on shots that weren't even on net.
I direct you to the image of Lupul's face on that ot goal against Jersey. |

I do think he has potential though. I like how he scrambles, I don't see that nearly enough in Reimer.
You need a goalie who doesn't give up in any scenario no matter what.
Problem with Monster is that I think he needs #1 starter minutes to be effective. Right now anyways.
I really hope he gets the majority of the starts the rest of the way, see what he does under Carlyle's defensive system.
Maybe he goes the rest of the way with a sparkling 2.25 GAA and .920 PCT, then what? Who knows really. Time will tell.

I just don't see a reason to feel angst or despair with the way things are going, I mean I wanted them to make the playoffs, but I was more than ready for another bad season, and happy we have our pick still. Guys like UG just might get their wish now, *crosses fingers for more losses.....ie. drafting top 5, maybe even top 3 pick.
I see many of you are still ripping on Schenn, or that him and Kadri were bad picks. Meh, I have every confidence that Carlyle will fix both, and I like what we have going forward. I also think Kadri is going to step up big as the Marlies win the Calder. (I can dream can't i?)
Should there be changes? Certainly. Guys like Komisarek/Connolly/Lombo/Armstrong/Steckel have to go, but there's nothing that can be done about that right now. All I know is they all suck and I rather see the kids get some ice time at the NHL level.
Next year, I'd be fine even if our top 9 looked like this:
C-W-W
Bozak-Kessel-Lupul
Grabo-Kadri-Kulimen
Colborne-Ashton-Frattin
I.e. maybe Burke will stop handing out contracts to free agents for the sake of handing out contracts, maybe he'll trust his own scouts for once and let the kids get a shot from the very beginning rather than get yo-yo'd from the NHL and AHL.
and depending on who we get in the draft, hopefully he'll challenge for a spot too. and if we suck again with this line-up next season, then guess what, Nathan Mackinnon baby! and if we're 9th place.....Domi's kid or whoever is in that spot. It's a poopshow right now, but at least the cupboards aren't empty. It's not the end of the world. As for Reimer, lets hope he follows the example of some other Leafs who fans wanted run out of town after their sophmore poopshow, i.e. Grabo/Schenn.
One more thing Go Marlies go.
I'll be back when the Cup finals conclude female doges. Then we can talk draft!

I agreed with almost everything you said. Reimer as backup, get a true #1.
Sign Gus and then trade him for something, don't lose him for nothing.
However, right now Gus >>> Reimer.
If we were still in a playoff position, Reimer wouldn't be seeing the light of day. - leafs93
When was the last time we saw a sign and trade in the NHL. |
