I'm actually relatively pro-Gus.

I think it's terrible how he was thrown under the bus earlier in the season, I don't think he's ever going to be an NHL #1 but I think he can be a capable #2.

As with many things, I think Leafs fans have been a bit too bi-polar when it comes to Gustavsson.

- Mr_Clean

Fair enough, but by pro-Gus I mean that he can be a capable NHL starter.. shall I keep you in your current grouping?

Yes! another loss. Keep em coming!
- mykokes

a lot of suckage under them tho....it seems as hard to drop into lottery contention as it does to make the playoffs.
them leafs are giving it there all, but with the islanders and habs fighting for basement supremecy, it's gonna be a battle!

How much do I get to rub it in if the opposite occurs?

Was at an airport bar last night watching the game - caught game action here and there - but do the Leafs just simply look disinterested?

I would look at trading Kessel before his contract expires while his value is still perceived to be high

- MTL1

I think the actual perception is that Kessel doesn't have good value.

He is still very young and I think you need that kind of forward on a team if you want to compete for a Cup. If you trade him then you'll spend many years trying to find a player like him.

Obviously he is not the vocal leader type, but he is a game breaker and generates lot of chances for himself and others around him.

its okay young pup, you dont have the experience to understand yet

i just think determining value on any player on the leafs whose job was to shut the opposition down (stay at home D, PKers, goaltenders) isjust unfair.. wilson's high octane offensive structure just made all these guys look bad.

- Dozzer

Dont get me wrong, wise one...I (totally) understnad and respect this argument, which Ive been using for guys like Schenn/Phaneuf etc of late....but Gus I dont see it period. I really dont think itll make a difference, I dont think he has it.

Thats the difference for me...not that I dont understand the position that he was in, and that it didnt help his stats and performance...but regardless, I dont think hes a good enough goalie.

First there was Tebowing, below is a picture of Reiming. He does this after every goal he lets in.

- leafs93

It's too bad that picture doesn't capture how his first reaction is to look to the ref to complain, then quickly realizes that won't help, so he raises his mask and takes a drink.

Why does Jesus do so much to help Tebow, but not Reimer? Mysterious ways indeed.

Very possible. I think he is MUCH more athletic than Reimer, but not sure if he will ever get over the bad goal thing.

I really think the one he let in vs New Jersey in overtime was the loss that really set this team back big time and put them in their current funk.

I'll never forget the look on Lupul face after that puck went in ....

True, but Monster at least earned them a point in that game. He was great in that 3rd period which gave TOR the chance to tie it.

...and I counter with he had to have a good 3rd period because he had already let 2 softies in earlier ...including a soft 5-hole goal by Ponikrapsky.

What's the term on this - 5 years? Otherwise you'll always say 'he hasn't had a proper chance yet'.

No doubt... I am not going sit here and tell you I had faith in them from day one. I picked 'em to finish 13th, just ahead of Mtl and just behind Wpg and Tor. How it is they were the team, of all those four, to exceed expectations I'm not quite sure, but no doubt MacLean will be in the running for Jack Adams.

True, but I fear if Reimer had started that game we don't even get to OT and don't even get a point.

Either way, I'm not arguing for either of them. They are who they are, it is Burkie's fault for hoping they are something they may not be.

But if I had to choose, Reimer the rest of the way this season so we can secure the highest possible pick this draft.

It had a lot to do with a lot of things... Remember, the Senators made the playoffs with a roster not appreciably worse than the one we ice today in 2010... A lot of veteran guys staying healthy/having bounce back seasons was a factor as well... Erik Karlsson's been solid, too.

But yeah, MacLean for the Jack Adams

- Mr_Clean

Solid?

Uh yeah, if being one of the top 3 Dmen in the league is solid, I guess you could say he has been solid.

they both suck...I agree...but

Reimer 23 >>> Gus 28

...behind a legit goalie, we have seen Reimer has the fundamentals to be good, just needs time to improve/develop his game more. And if not, we atleast bring up Scrivens/Rynnas...but either way, you take a risk on developing Reimer as your backup hopeing one day he becomes good enough to play as a starter, and either he fails and stays as a steady backup, or fails completely and gets moved back down.

We cant keep both, and Id say it would be wiser to move the older guy whos struggle rather than the younger guy. Gus cant play as a backup, and this team needs a legit starter. Which neither of our current goalies can fulfill.

I think the best way to do that is to keep switching them back and forth, cause if 1 guy is put in for the 11 games left I think they will get settled in and start to win some...

I really don't know who's better long term ....Gus is better today. I just don't want either of them to be the starter next year. I think it's best for both of them if they get into a good backup situation so they can properly develop and earn the starters role somewhere.

Reimer, comparative to Gus, has age and a 3 year BB contract on his side so I think he sticks around if for no other reason then that.

The Leafs may have to overpay for a goalie because the ACC has been a graveyard for goaltenders the last 5 or 6 years.

Good point, switching them back and forth is what got us into this mess.

Might as well go with it.
