You are a wise man, sir. Wiser than me (I thought you'd be ok with Reimer).

But then, concussions can throw off anyone's season, obviously.

- Mr_Clean

I always thought Reimer could be good...concussion set him back, still think he can pick it up again with help from an experienced legit starter. His best days were when he played with Giggy.

Ive never been comfortable with Gus, wanted him gone since last year. If we gamble on him again, dont expect much better results...our goalies have sucked.

And if Gus posts a .920+ sv% over the remaining games?

Still needs to go?

- mfreedman

howzabout this...if gustavsson is capable of winning a single game between now and the end of the season, we give him the vezina?

If I had to vote right now between Hitchcock and McLean for coach of the year I am not sure who I would pick.

To me Ottawa is the surprise team of the year.

My thoughts exactly. I still think Reimer is a better option than Gustavsson too... I don't think the Leafs need to get rid of both but they NEED that veteran, stabilizing presence to be able to take at least 40-50 starts next year.

Just my unsolicited two cents.

EDIT: Who is a FA goaltender this offseason?

Reimer is so tight right now it's scary. As a former goalie coach I can tell he is stiff as a board and forcing his movements. Somehow he needs to make a huge save and win a game before the end of the season. He can't go in to the off season with nothing but an .850 save percentage over his last 10 games to think about.

I dont know.. the only thing I see wrong with his game is his head.. if he can figure out how to maintain his composure I think he'd be a very good goalie. The skills are there.. but his confidence has been massacred by inconsistant coaching and a terrible defensive system in front of him.

The best I can say about Gus is "I don't know". Reimer I think is done.

You're kidding right? I think Monster has had a few other 5 game stretches where he was .920 plus. Problem is they were proceeded and followed by .850 stretches.

No doubt... I am not going sit here and tell you I had faith in them from day one. I picked 'em to finish 13th, just ahead of Mtl and just behind Wpg and Tor. How it is they were the team, of all those four, to exceed expectations I'm not quite sure, but no doubt MacLean will be in the running for Jack Adams.

On the penalty kill last night, almost looked like he was hoping the shots from the point would hit him as he stood frozen in his crouch position.

I've watched guys like Carey Price and they are constantly searching trying to find where that point shot is coming from.

In my opinion for next season, neither one of these 2 should be the #1 starter.

If Reimer is going to be that great, then he can prove himself the same way Halak did in MTL and Schneider did in VAN and that is as a backup first.

Gotta be Hitch, taking over after season has already started and now battling for 1st overall. No brainer.

MacLean though obviously 2nd place, great job by him.

you young guys dont really have a concept of old

28 is not old

look at last years cup winning con smyth winner

38 years old.

didnt become a starter til he was 32

stop throwing away assets early.

yea...it was a horrid year for him with the injury. But hes still young and has time to catch up. Behind a legit goalie he could turn things around.

People have been pretty quiet about Burke throughout this whole collapse, from what I've seen (not that I've been around much admittedly).

At what point does the blame for the failure to make the playoffs come to rest on his head?

hitchcock.... teams is in 1st place and hasnt a player in the top50 in pts
ottawa has 3....
sure you could argue either... but ottawa does have more established stars in spezza, alfie, and a lot more experience neil, gonchar, kuba. so thier turnaround is a little more believable...
stl has experience as well, but no stars. toatl all around team effort and buy-in in stl

I agree with that, and take the stats with a grain of salt accordingly. Unfortunately from what I've seen on the ice, he doesn't have the competitiveness to make the clutch, Fuhr-like, saves and he allows too many stinkers. Those aren't results of a system. Cujo and Eddie were both able to make it work under a similar run n gun system because they kept the softies to a minimum and came up clutch when the team needed to be bailed out. I just haven't seen any evidence of those qualities with Jonas.
