Could I have a comp for Krieder? Because in my memory the guys who come right in and contribute are skill guys who dominated in Canadian major junior, maybe with a few weeks in AHL playoffs on the way. What college guys have done that in the spring? I'm not saying he won't be good. But I just feel like expecting him to walk right in and compete in the NHL may be unrealistic. - bodiva88
Kreider dominated the best Canadian juniors in the two world junior championships he played in getting a gold and a bronze while scoring 10 goals and 2 assists in 13 games.
Kreider also played with NHL men as a member of two U.S. World Championship
teams (its youngest member and only non NHL player) where he had 3 goals and 2 assists in 13 games.
He might arguably be the fastest guy in the NHL when he joins the Rangers. I don't think there will be a problem with him competing at all.
He has won a couple of Beanpots, an NCAA championship, a World Junior Championship and has played in two World championships so the kid has proved can play on a big stage under pressure.
Yeah, I know it is a jump from ANY league to the pros but I don't think it is stretch to say he can jump in and play for the Rangers when his college season is over. |

@reporterchris Gary Bettman says the NHL's salary cap will go up this summer. At least until Sept 15, when a new CBA is needed.
Gonna be a weird summer... |

I seem to remember Tony Amonte came out and played real well as soon as he got out of college. I don't think anyone is expecting him to come in and be Wayne Gretzky, just to add alittle depth and size and I mean really, can he at least be better than Dubinsky? Look at how Hags has come right in and Step right out of college...so we shall see, I will pay attention to the Hockey NCAAs more than I ever have... - Blueshirts4ever

Kreider has played with Stepan in the World Junior Championships, Stepan didn't need any AHL time.
It's not unprecedented at all.
When the Olympic teams were full of amateurs, like 1980-84-88, players from those teams went right from the Olympics to their pro teams, i.e. Ken Morrow, Pat Lafontaine, and Brian Leetch.
and in 1991, the Rangers brought in Amonte and Doug Weight and had them play playoff games right after their college seasons were over. - jimbro83
team USA also selected him to play at the world championships last spring. I believe he was the only college player on the team. his size and speed will help him make the jump a little easier IMO. |

CLoprestiWFAN:
Spoke to someone today that has been in touch with Chris Kreider. Hes itching to be done with college hockey and join #NYR
Chris Lopresti @CLoprestiWFAN
More from source on Kreider: He's certainly pumped to help BC in the playoffs but feels he's gotten all he can out of college hockey. #NYR

fact that Glen Sather spoke so openly about Kreider at the trade deadline seems to suggest #NYR very confident in signing him quickly.

Everything evens out at the end of the day. Was he as bad as the first five months of the season showed? No. But is he as good as this current streak? No
Brian Boucher had five consecutive shutouts a few years back. Sometimes a goalie gets hot for a stretch. - MidnightMarauder
But he's a better goalie than Brian Boucher, is what I was saying.
And the team really bore down defensively when the injuries hit the D corps. The forwards had lost focus on that and it was hurting them. Now they're working better as a team. Hopefully it's a lesson well learned going into the playoffs. |
