You think that management should be basing its decisions on what the fanbase wants? That Haley was sent down to Bridgeport because management was oblivious to what the fanbase wanted? You don't think it had anything to do with his play? Just that the "management" was oblivious?
If anything, a team that can barely scrape together 11K fans per night in attendance would do anything in its power to appease its fanbase. Teams shouldn't be making personnel decisions based on what the fans want. Personnel decisions should be based on what wins hockey games. For all the love Haley gets on these boards, its not as if he's a star in waiting. The guy has been in the minors for years. Nobody else offered him a contract when his deal with the Isles expired last summer. I think he deserves a shot on the fourt line over a guy like Wallace, but its not as if his play is so stellar that its a no-brainer to put him on the team. - Jethro09

Here's my rant for the day. Its a bit of a carry over from yesterday, when I ranted about how sh**ty the team is after this past weekend's horrid performances.
People appear to be on both sides of the fence on this team. Some think its headed in the right direction, some don't. I think its a hybrid. I think prospect-wise, the team is headed in the right direction, but not in other areas. If this team is going to finish above the bottom five in the league next year, lots of stuff has to happen:
1) DP needs to be bought out or waived for the purposes of sending him to B-port. Its sad that his career has spiraled downward the way it has, but Nilsson and Poulin are knocking on the doorstep and DP is in their way. He's got to go.
2) re-sign Nabokov and PAP ONLY IF they are fair deals. I don't want to see the Isles have to drastically overpay either guy to get them to stay. If they can be re-signed to fair deals, get it done. If not, let them walk.
3) Fire Capuano and bring in a legit NHL-tested coach. Cappy is in over his head. His horrid handling of the roster this year (albeit, a bad roster) and the team's performance warrant dismissal. Cappy wasted an entire year of Nino's development by burying him on the fourth line and skating Rolston over him for no other reason other than Rolston was a vet (though force-fed Nino by Snow). Time to move on and bring in a coach who has both credibility and respect in the NHL community at whatever the salary cost.
4) Make offers to Parise, Weber and/or Suter, but don't expect any to sign. It can't hurt to make offers to show the fans and players on the team you're trying to improve and maybe a miracle happens and one of them sign. Just don't bet on it.
5) Refrain from making offers to scabs (i.e. Reasoners, Sims, Pandolfo's, Wallaces, Mottaus, Eatons, Jurcinas, etc.). If Snow can't get legit top six forwards or top four d-men to sign here or through a trade, then don't waste roster spots on guys that are just placeholders. Might as well promote guys from Bridgeport (Ullstrom, Cizikas, Donavan, de Haan, etc.) that can use those spots to develop rather than waste them on bums that don't have any future.
6) ticket Nino for Bridgeport, Strome for the OHL. No need to rush Strome to the NHL and waste a year of his development like they did with Nino. Give Strome a 9-game look if he warrants it. If he's ripping it up, then think of keeping him up. If he's not, send him back to JR. Nino needs to start in B-port. If he starts lighting it up, he can be recalled. But based on this season, Nino is nowhere near ready for the NHL.
The likelihood of any of this happening is remote, and maybe I'm wrong. But I don't see a better finish in the standings by bringing back this roster and coaching staff for another year. - Jethro09
Obviously we would all like to see it unfold like this but realistically, it's not going to happen like that.
DiPietro isn't going anywhere. His relationship with Wang and Snow is far to great to be waived or bought out. DiPietro will get his shot again next season - if he was going to be bought or waived it would have happened already.
The only way PA and Nabby (any player) will play in Long Island next season is if the Isles do overpay for them. PA is going to command 5+ million per season and with the contracts that teams have been giving out as of late, he's right on the mark. I'm not sold on the whole Nabby wanting to stay. From a professional stand point it just doesn't make sense why an athlete at this point in his career would want to be part of something like this. Everyone wants to win, not be second fiddle in a circus act.
Captain Jack needs to be sent packing - that's a given. Make no mistake when Cap is relieved of his duties Doug Weight will take the reigns. As long as the Islanders are owned by Charles and Snow is the GM, don't expect to see any reputable coach getting a job here. They (the coach) simply won't do it. This team has no idea how to develop talent or what kind of players to bring in to try and mould talent. No coach with any intelligence would put themselves into such a battle with management. The coach/GM relationship is the far most important factor to a team succeeding. They both need to share the same visions and be on the same page. That being said, there's not a coach walking this planet that could channel into what Snow is thinking or is trying to accomplish.
Making offers to players goes without saying. Snow has always been active in the free agent pool but players just don't give the Isles a serious look, and really, can you blame them? Goes back to the ownership and how this team is and has been managed. Players aren't stupid, agents aren't stupid. No player is going to sign in a city with such disarray in head office and the future of the team's location isn't even stable. The Isles are in a bad spot right now, very bad. Attendance sucks, arena sucks, Wang sucks, Snow sucks, Cap sucks, and the team sucks. It's not exactly on everyone's top spot to play list. Until there is a new arena, a stable future, and a new owner - don't expect any free agent signings either than the Pandolfos, Reasoners, and Staois' of the NHL.
Strome is a fantastic talent. I watch the Ice Dogs all the time and he's nothing short of spectacular. I would like to see him brought up into Bridgeport next season, get him a little closer to the team. Sure, bring him up for a couple of games see what he's got and maybe give him a taste on what it's like and gives him a sense on how to tweak his game and make the neccessary adjustments to play at this level.
Nino, SORRY. What more could really be said....?
Ovi just tied it, super... Where's the hand over the face Jack? DRAMA!!! Loser. |

what's embarrassing is Nilsson comes up and plays very well and what do they do, send him packing. What's embarrassing is sending Mark Streit out in the shootout when you have guys like Bailey and Okposo on the bench. Embarrassing is going into the third period up 4-2 and losing. Embarrassing is what the Isles should change the team name too: New York Embarrassments, or the Long Island Passenger Express. |

I guarantee if we were in your division next year we would win it. 4-0 against the Hurricanes, Winnipeg? You guys? LOL
btw your team is just a pile of poop thrown together from free agency and in 2 years you guys will be cap-strapped. |
