I never knew that, but usually they call high sticks regardless if they were follow through on shots. I just read the rule, but that doesn't make sense. Plus, if I am not mistaken, Grossman was firing the puck around the boards, therefore it's considered a pass and not a shot.

Nevertheless, if you follow through on a pass it is a high stick, but on a shot, it is not?

Any follow through from playing the puck is not considered a high stick, never has been. Shot or pass is immaterial.

devils keep over loading one side in the d-zone, keep slipping guys down the slot behind them and win a puck battle, 1 on 1 withthe goalie

It was a bad call. No two ways about it.

Remember this?

Follow through from Brodeur caught him in the face.

I remember that. Gruesome looking when it happened and obviously afterward too. Johnny Vermont was one tough dude.

I've never seen them not call a high stick because of that, I saw it in the rule book, but I have never seen that implemented.

By the way, apparently what Rinaldo did to Parise that one game is a "dangerous kick" but a slewfoot is doing that and grabbing the player and forcefully pulling him down.....I was like WTF?

horrible call. i cant stand when the ref 2ft away is staring at the play and decides it's not a penalty but the ref in center ice 100ft away can decide that it is even though didnt really see what happen. call made on seeing a guy fall
- dillpx183

the replay made it look like the closer ref shook his head when he realized the other ref (Peel) made the call.

Now you have seen it...No call on the play and it was the right call. A follow through should not be called a high stick. The ONLY exception in the rule book is if a play swings at an airborn puck and misses. The puck Grossmann swatted at wasn;t in the air.

John LeClair, after catching Brodeur's follow through in the mush.

He was. 1996 playoffs, I believe, he played most of the games with a high ankle sprain. Either the first or second game against Tampa Bay he got hurt and played through it.

A classic example was the Pronger incident. Follow through on a shot by Grabo, stick blade caught him near the eye. Not a penalty, it wasn't penalized, and Pronger is 6'6"

The league should ask themselves if the Refs need to be re-tested on the rules in the NHL. A penalty is a penalty. The worst thing anyone should allow leave their mouth from either side winning or losing is "The Refs are letting them play" during the first and second period. This is just my opinion. If it's been a hard fought battle, the 3rd period is dying down and no call has been blatantly (or painfully) obvious, then I say let them play.

The only thing I can figure is that Grossman whiffed on the puck. So maybe it's not considered playing the puck then. Even though that's what he was attempting to do. I'm just guessing here.

I just want consistency. If the refs call a tight game for the first 50 minutes, it should continue the last ten minutes. I hate when a guy calls everything all night and then eats his whistle late.

Worse is the guys that DO let them play and avoid making calls, who decide to suddenly call a ticky tack call just for kicks.

A guy like Chris LEee calls everything and it's annoying, but you know going in he's calling it tight and always does. It's worse with a guy like Auger, Jackson or Peel, because what was a penalty in the first won't be in the second

That's probably the justification, but the puck wasn't in the air.

Man, Michael Neuvirth is having the same kind of luck Turco is...
