If we have to put up with fantasy game scores and video game ad nauseum, a little mid-century modern collecting won't hurt you. And maybe you'll see a piece thrown out or in a thrift shop sometime, realize it's valuable, and turn a nice profit. - bodiva88
Hey, I'm all for it. I'll need something to sit on when playing those ad nauseam video games. |

Kirk Hammett's ok, but for a guy taught by Joe Satriani he's pretty underwhelming. - BulliesPhan87
I find Satriani underwhelming. He is a technical monster, but to me he opts for flash over feeling. |

In general, I find the virtuoso guitar acts to be more curiosities than memorable music. Cool to listen to once, but it doesn't keep me coming back.
EDIT: That said, I'm all about some Big Bad Moon |

My dad had one of those Eames black leather and teak lounge chairs with the footstool in his office for years.
And I wish my aunt had left me her Wassily chair. Dumpy little 3 BR 1 Bath ranch in Champaign IL with a gorgeous Wassily chair in pride of place. Uncle Windy said it was the most comfortable chair he'd ever seen. Not sure where he picked it up. |

I know more than a few people (including myself) who thing Satriani, while technically incredible, is not exciting because he goes with flash over feeling. - Lexington Flyer
Im going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Now if you are talking about Yngvie, then I am in full agreement. That guy has so little soul that when he stands in front of a mirror he cant see his own reflection.

I find you can cure most hiccups by chewing on a tablespoon of sugar. |

I find that virtuosity for its own sake is lacking in passion (as someone upthread mentioned). And the pieces written for (or cadenzas developed by) virtuosos are all flash and don't usually feel very musical to me. (True of vocalists, too. Most jazz skat leaves me cold, most coloratura opera the same.) |

Tom Morello's Audioslave work was pretty good except a few solos where it sounded like a horse was being mutilated. Just because you CAN make certain sounds with a guitar doesn't mean you SHOULD. |

I'm going to have to learn a thing or two about furniture in a hurry. Moving out on my own (shut up, I'm a late bloomer in a bad economy) rather soon and lack much in the way of good furniture. Now I know who to seek for advice around here. |

I'd rather listen to Steve Vai myself. Not that I have any of his stuff, I was intrigued by it in college. |

Kirk Hamet was revolutionary. No one was as fast and technical as he was. You might find guys that can put down an awesome solo on trak, but will never be able to play it again live... Everything Kirk puts down, he can play it again... perfectly. Metallica is the best Live band ever, and they are still one of the best all time IMO.
Now does Kirk compair to Claptan or Hendrix... no. Townsend, and Van Halen maybe... But destroys anyone coming out today... |

Agreed on Yngvie. But I'd give up a finger to have half the chops those guys have...and besides the missing finger thing worked for this guy:
