If their is a rift in the room that has the kids and the coach vs. the vets. Then perhaps management has to stick with the kids and the coach. This team is being built around Hall, Ebs, RNH and to a lesser extent Gagner. If they like the coaching and the coaching is good with them but the vets who will be gone in 1- years have an issue, then the solution is easy. Bye bye Smyth, Horcs, Hemmer, Jones, Belanger. Buy outs, and 7th round picks for all.
Don't get me wrong, Smyth has been a great warrior for the Oilers and his experience could help the kids. But Hall, Ebs and RNH seem to get it and don't need their hands held. Horcoff was alright once, got paid and hasn't been good since. Poor leadership leads to a poor team. Hemsky is very talented. But if his attitude has soured because a younger player who has outplayed him at every aspect is receiving the much deserved credit, well either suck it up or ship out. Jones, a dime a dozen. There are hundreds of players who can play 3rd line minutes. Some of them are even grittier. Belanger, thanks for the faceoffs, but outside of that you have been
irrevelant.
It's the youth that matters, not the players on their last legs who are basically playing out a contract. - Ben37
In defence of Renney he has always been known as an excellent teaching coach. The vets are never going to like him but the kids will appreciate they can achieve under his tutelage.

Well he had a good hot streak going and maybe he felt he wa more valuable to us and could possibly be breaking out, he is only 22. But it was really just a hot streak and I don't think it's indicative of what's to come. If they thought he was emerging as a 60 point guy then ya keep him. My take on it is he is still a 45-50 point centre man which is still good for second line don't get me wrong. I just think he needs to play with shooters not two passers like Omark an hemsky. Minnie has some shooters that may wrk well with him hence the trade proposal. We would get a possible big scoring winger and another top ten pick to maybe get faksa who is close to NHL ready at 6 3 200 pounds. - ystoil
I where you're coming from but who would play second line center? |

Edit: Well if they draft Galchenyuk this year they can deal Gagner along with the 2013 1st for a top 2 dman. |

We need a NHL ready defenseman not one that's 3 years away from contributing. Forwards in the top 5 usually have a greater impact earlier in there career so why not trade Gagner and an asset for some one ready to step in and contribute. |

There are no top six center's on the market this year that would fit into the Oilers rebuild the best way to acquire a top 6 center IMO is to draft one. |

We will see what Galchenyuk dose for the rest of the season and the playoffs, hopefully he plays his ass off and we take him. I like Murray, but I dont think he will help us for another year or two. |

We need to take the BPA, not the most NHL ready. From what peeps are saying, Ryan Murray is ready for the NHL. |

Then were taking Grigorenko, and I dont know about him. I have a really bad feeling about him. I hope Galchenyuk plays his ass off and rips it up like Huberdeau did last year. Long shot I know, but I am hoping.

Heavy stuff. Bit of a shakeup might not be a bad idea don't call it a blow up though. Still going to be an interesting summer. I'm officially on the trade the draft pick for Carlson train. Anyone else wanna jump on? - freelancer

He wont fall from number 2. He will go number 3 if the Oilers dont take him. He is the 2nd best player in the draft.
Edit: Forsberg is this year Couturier. |

Maybe, Oilers might like to be deep at Center like Det, and Pit and grab another number 1 Center. |

His 6.2 I think hes the second best player in the draft but because he got injured for the whole season he wont go 2nd overall, unless he just turns on the after jets in the playoffs and carrys the stings to a cup, but we will see. |
