I didn't say trade Briere. I said buy out his contract if there is an amnesty clause. Until this year I have been 50/50 on trading Hartnell... But no, his play is justifying his contract. Briere however hasnt scored in 22 games, and he is the highest paid player on a team that is cap strapped. If he is not producing, then the money can be spent in better places.

I meant to say buyout. Anyway, I disagree. I give Briere a chance to get back to where he was.

the chatter coming out of the NHL GM meetings is that they are considering instituting a two minute penalty for hand passes in the defensive zone.

as with the delay of game penalty for clearing the puck out of play, you'd think there would have to be a black and white rule here, which is not a good rule. If not, you're giving more discretion in the hands of the bumbling officials, which is not good either.

Briere still has plenty of time to turn it around, too. Just look at what Bryzgalov has done the past few weeks.

The thing is, he has readily produced over his career as a Flyer - regular season and, to a more extreme extent, playoffs. He's shown enough in the past to make me believe that he will give blood, sweat, and tears when the season is on the line.

Don't like it... No more rules... NHL shouldn't be able to make a new rule without taking an old one off the books. First one is the instigator rule.

I can get behind doing away with defensive-zone hand passes, but a 2-minute penalty would be absurd.

I don't care as long as they don't bring back the 2 line pass.

If he turns it around, he turns it around... But if he doesn't and an amnesty clause is written, then you have to consider Briere as an option. His contract is a lot to handle for someone that isnt producing 30-35 goals a season. Again, if he goes on a tear in the playoffs, great, it will give us less to think about... but if not, Briere's contract will really hurt us in 2 years when Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Read, and Meszaros are Free Agents. Especially when the year before Bobrovsky, Simmonds, and Hartnell are Free Agents... Our Payroll is going to skyrocket, and I would rather not have to trade one of our younger guys, because we cant move Briere...

Only the Flyers had the worst season of their existence just 5 years ago and the fanbase didn't drop off. They still packed the building, fans believed in Homer when he took over, and the message boards were still talking puck, hoping to see a good effort each night.
