Unless a guy is truly a bad actor off the field, or his off field behaviors are hurting his on field play, then I don't care about his personality. Now a guy like Bryz who is a character and makes me laugh...sure I like his personality...but as long as he's winning, who cares about his personality?
- Jsaquella

He was playing bad though before his run...I understand some fans booing the guy, but on the flipside when hes doing well he gets showered with applause..the only time that it bothered me was when he got the shutout and lost in the shootout...The goofiness is like throwing gasoline on the fire when he plays bad, it also makes him more likeable when hes playing good. To most fans who dont follow the game closely, they think that hes not taking his contract and commitment seriously. To those who know better and actually go to a practice or two they can see that the guy was working hes ass off to try to fix issues...

He wasn't. The test was invalid because of the way it was handled. And if you can't trust the testers, you can't trust the test.

we might boo and thats all good and dandy...but ill tell you one thing is that even when the team sucked people would still show up at games...how many cities can say that.
- Philly1980

That is true for the Flyers, but it's certainly not the case for the Eagles and especially the Sixers and Phillies. When the Phils were bad and playing the Mets, back in the days of Gregg Jefferies and Ricky Otero, Mets fans would be a 50-50 split at the Vet.

I remember plenty of times, in my youth during the Marion Campbell days, reading that the local CBS affiliate would buy 7,000 tickets or so, so that the Eagles game wouldn't be blacked out locally.

Useless fact of the day: G scored instantly after throwing his smelling salt into the crowd, in which a small boy made a 1 handed grab.

Or I go to Twitter, where *I* choose whom to read. Or I just turn off the browser and grab a book. Or play Xbox. Or go somewhere/do something with my wife. Or do some work.

Blame the fanbase? How does the fan base sitting their quietly make them look bad. They tried to cheer the team multiple times but if you cant get something started its kind of hard to keep cheering during a baseball game imo.
- stveshdy

Did he blame the fanbase for the loss, or is that just how they took it? Was he just commenting on the lack of passionate sports atmosphere we're known for? I recall it clear as day, and it wasn't just quiet, it was as close to silent as a crowd of ~40,000 gets.

I was talking about the flyers...We are the most loyal out of the four teams here.

Look at Winnipeg. Their arena is loud and full of cheering. Rollins pointed out that the fans were not doing a whole lot to get the team fired up. The converse may be true, but since Philly is such a passionate town...

We are. But as Skippy has pointed out, the fanbase has changed to more ape the Phillies and Eagles fanbases.

Honoring their contracts should be enough to get them fired up.

So the fanbase isnt allowed to be quiet? The fans get a bad wrap no matter what they do.

The A's will be luckily to still be in Oakland in a few years. Serious talk about moving them to San Jose.

Sad. If they can get the support there like the Sharks do, I'm all for it.

Sorry, I think Eagles are more loyal. They may have a loud and ignorant vocal minority, but this team is an Eagles town and still loved the team even when they sucked. It's similar to the Flyers. Even during playoff runs where the Flyers are going to place in the top 4, the Flyers fanbase does not accept a flat performance. A loss is acceptable, but soft play is not. Philadelphia fans are some of the smartest in the US; and that goes for all 4 sports.

Exactly my point. But at the same time, he's getting shredded by the media-including the ones at the practices every day and see him working-and there's "fans" who openly "pray" that he suffered a serious injury and get bought out.

I remember when I was a kid, I didn't like Doug Crossman. Never remember hoping he'd get hurt

My thing is why do the fans have to be cheering to fire up a baseball team in the playoffs? Isnt that their own job? I know the fans can help but in baseball it can be highly overrated only bc the game is so slow.

poop game last night. Not going to win them all.

Serious question though. If it ends up being the Flyers in the 5th spot, which team would you prefer to face? Pens or Rangers. I'm not going to lie, personally I want the Rangers. That is a completely unproven playoff team and we are so (frank)ING due against them.

Let's go Flyers, get a win on Tuesday!

Not to the degree it happens here, and perhaps Boston and NY.
- Jsaquella

NY's not bad at all. If anything, the fans wishhhhh the NY papers would even remotely mention hockey. The press is almost nonexistent on matters of hockey, even during this, their best season (so far) in 18 years. Every headline is about the Peyton Manning non-signing that never happened and was never going to happen for the Jets, and Spring training for the Yankees. Although I don't like the Rangers, it's depressing reading New York papers, because any mention of hockey would be an upgrade from what it's like now.

However, criticize your Philly media if you want, but at least you're not Toronto!

I've heard that San Jose is killing for another sports team, and they would embrace baseball like they embrace the Sharks.

They don't have to be...but at the same time, calling yourself the most passionate and firey fanbase in the league means you have to live up to it. I remember that game. The entire fanbase-not just those at the game-seemed to simply be waiting for something bad to happen

I honor the contract i signed for my job as well. Doesn't mean i come into work giving 100% effort and enthusiasm every day. But if we're near a deadline (equivalent to playoffs), I'll be sure to give my A-game (or B-game.....)

I think your being a little harsh on our fans... Its not like we go out an riot after playoff loses or anything. Its not like we throw rats and octipus on the ice and disrupt the game...

We sell out every game... We raise more money then any city in charity given by the fans... We even pack a practice rink for training camps... We are dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate... If sometimes our passion brings out the bad in us... at least we are true to ourselves...

BTW. If you notice, we only allow ourselves to critque us or our teams... if its anyone else we all band together and defend our own....
