Kerry Fraser was hands down the best I ever saw. Kelly Sutherland is one of the better ones now.

I still remember that save he made on Dvorak on a 3-on-0 in game 6 of the SCF. Oil were up 4-0 but he still battled his ass off. If not for him that game would have been 10-0. He was unreal.

Ya.. what a big turning point for the game.... Oh wait

I always thought Bill McCreary was the best, with Megough being the worst...Paul Stewart a close 2nd-worst.

I like stephane auger. He has the balls to deal with whiners and divers like they SHOULD be dealt with. Throw them in the penalty box.

Best ref for sure.

See, its s#it like this that makes the rest of the NHL shake their heads.

But then, you are a fan of the team with more diving penalties than any other in last year's playoffs. An absolute fact. So, when you call other teams divers, well, thats another thing that makes fans in every other city shake their heads.

Truth is, Stephane Auger is not disliked for anything to do with Burrows, or whatever. It has to do with him being a s#itty ref.

Which, BTW, the NHL agrees with, considering the guy has been in the league about 15-17 years, and done a total of 10 playoff games, and none recently, or beyond a first round.

Now, learn more about the game before you make such comments that make you look silly, OK?

Worst this year? Whoever BUTCHERED that call that cost the Oilers a goal versus the Avs last night. Makes the wrong call, then tells Gagner it doesn't count based on a rule that was repealed years ago? And THEN refuses to even go upstairs? If that guy sees the Playoffs, he should be shot.

Overall consistently worst? Marc Joanette. This guy seems to think people come out to watch him. Will completely load up one side of a game sheet with so many PPs until the team he has chosen to lose the game has no chance of coming back, then will start to even up the calls so it doesn't look that bad. Will ignore the blatant fouls and call the chintzy ones, which wrecks the game. Second place goes to Mike Hasenfratz, a terrible WHL ref and now a terrible NHL ref. Again, believes that people are there to watch Team Zebra. Inconsistent at best; lets games get out of hand.

The root of the problem, though, is that these are the guys who survived reffing through the junior ranks! Any potentially GOOD officials bail out of the system well before reaching the elite ranks because they're sick of being berated by rabid hockey parents! People threatening refs at games between 11 year olds? Get a grip, people: these are your children, not your damn meal tickets! All we're left with is guys who aren't any good at it but stick with it for some reason, and guys who are so damn full of themselves, they'll mess up a game just to show that "they're in charge!"

Now, tossing a mock cheer at a pro level ref is one thing (no need to personally attack them, folks) as they should have a better grip on the game by this point, but leave the poor kids at the rink alone; they're just learning. You want better officiating at the NHL or CHL level? Leave the good ones alone in the Bantam and PeeWee leagues!

The Toronto Maple Leafs may have been hoping Zach Parise would consider their club in free agency this summer. But perhaps that's false hope.

Parise told friends (according to the Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons) that he wouldn't consider the Leafs in free agency this summer. This might mean, if the Leafs want to add an elite forward, they'll have to trade for one -- Rick Nash, maybe.

Simmons also writes that Devils GM Lou Lamoriello thinks Parise is going to stay. The GM said, "He's a Devil. He%u2019s not going anywhere." If he's saying this because of the encouraging talks he's had with Parise's party, then perhaps Parise is staying. But if not, then he may have to prepare for Parise's departure -- perhaps to a place like Detroit or Minnesota -- as many are predicting.

sorry leaf fans

The second you mentioned Simmons name in your post, you lost all credibility. I don't think there's one Leafs fan out there that takes this guy seriously. He truely knows crappola about hockey so nice try bud but sorry to you.

Bill McCreary is the best one right now I think.

Worst one is, without a doubt, Chris Lee.

McCreary was the worst of all time. he loved favoring(favouring) Canadian teams with a passion and screwed everyone else. Life as a Sabres fan has been leaps and bounds better with that guy retired.

And yes Malkin should have gotten 5.
