If we had a bonified #1 goalie the style of play would work. The leafs have always had a good goalie like Belfour or Cujo to bail them out. But yea i think that's why these young goalies are struggling. Every time they win its cuz of their goalie. Thats another thing Burke didn't think through, he could have got a good goalie in the summer but decided to run with Reimer and Gus and now were paying for it.

So what do you think Toronto will do this summer with the goalie situation: stay pat, add UFA or trade for one?

They have the ability to spend to the cap. They are using that power to spend money on idiots like MacArthur, Grabovski, Kulemin, Connolly, Lombardi and Kessel.

Those guys, along with Lupul are what Burke has chosen to build around? Or even send out on the ice? Thats a horrific crew to lead your offense. I'd keep Lupul but the rest of those idiots would be long gone.

Wait though! There is the saviour Kadri.. Another overhyped kid made out to be the next moses by the Toronto media. The Leafs have no player even close to a Richards/Carter/Giroux in the minors.

Joke of a franchise and I love it.

His contract is ridiculous imo. I've been told he would of been the best C on the market and hes worth the cap hit he signed for. I dont see it.

I think Kessel (24 yrs old) is worth his 5.4M cap hit. I dont know if he should be the franchise player but he is a pretty good player imo.
- stveshdy

If Kessel had a true number 1 center to get him the puck he could hit 50 goals. Pure sniper, nothing else. They problem is that teams find a way to shut him down.

Kessel is a joke. The toronto media has done more for his career than he ever has.

Definitely trade for one. Maybe try to pry Bernier, Halak or Schnieder. Ottawa has a couple of good young goalies in Lehner and Bishop, maybe take a run at them?

We disagree on that. But everything else you have posted I do agree with. I think Kessel is a good player but they gave up way too much to acquire him and he will never live up to that hype.

He is 5th in the league in scoring.

50 goals.

Ideas like that are why Toronto is a joke and always will be. The media feeds you the same BS every year about how great the team is and they miss the playoffs over and over.

Guys that ONLY score do very little in the playoffs.

Respect the whole opinion thing too.

They have roughly 2 million in cap space.

They have some solid pieces on the D to build around but the offense is hideous. Trade as many of those fools as you can to get cap space and picks. Signs some solid FA's. They are building, what seems like to me a team of mediocre guys.

Kessel is the franchise player? That tells you all you need to know.

- flyer_nutter

The Offense isn't hideous. They are the 8th highest scoring team in the League. Kessel was obtained for offense. He is the 5th leading scorer in the League. I'd say he's doing his job.

And it's the complete opposite. They're not a playoff team right now because they are a weak defensive team.

Some exaggeration here. Toronto has some good young players to build around. They just need to continue to tweek.

Kessel has played 15 playoff games, and has registered 15 points in those games.

What does Danny Briere do beside score? How does he do in the playoffs?

Oh and Shelly and Rinaldo are great hockey players?

I guess what im saying is that i think Philly will win but it wont be as easy as you think, Leafs are getting used to the new system. My guess is OT/SO

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I don't think Rinaldo is a great hockey player, but he's certainly not a bad one.

Let's remember what he is: he's a 4th line energy guy.

In my eyes, as long as you fulfill your role, you're a good hockey player. You do your job. What more can you ask? Rinaldo is a 4th line hustler, worker, and grinder that brings insane amounts of energy to the table. And for the past few months, he's been DISCIPLINED and getting under the other team's skin (let's face it- the vast majority of the penalties he commits are "reputation calls").

I think he's a fine hockey player.

Please put a poop load of hurt on the Leafs tonight. They'll make Bryz look like a Vezina candidate.

We'll at least ive taken notice of him. I cant say that about 50% the guys in the league, he seems scrapy enough. Every team needs those guys. Armstrong just isnt strong enough for the leafs in that role, he tries. Brown i like but needs more offense. They make the game exciting. Those type of players who lack discipline usually take a while to clam down like Downie, Carcillo, and Ott. Leafs havent had a player who pisses off thier opponent since Tucker. man i miss him

Step 1. Jump over the boards

Step 2. Ignore play and chirp at anyone on the other team

Step 3. Slash or cheaply hit somebody during the play, or after a whistle- jab someone with the butt of a stick OR give an unnecessary push to the chest/facewash

Step 4. Once engaged, push back no more than 3 times

Step 5. Skate away chirping like a little puss.

Step 6. Jump back over boards

Step 7. Take a drink from the Gatorade bottles on the bench

Step 8. Towel off with a Gatorade towel

Step 9. Wait until it's your turn

Step 10. Rinse and repeat steps 1-9
