He's right, but for the wrong reason..... Except the second part that is... IMO Timo and Mezs absense has forced everyone else to work twice as hard on defense, which is why they seem better defensively. If they played this hard when Timo, Mezs and Kubina come back they will be 5 times better. Lets hope they dont go back to lazy back-checking thinking Timonen will be back there to pick up the slack...

This plus bryz's outstanding goaltending has gotten the ball rolling. Hopefully as they continue to get healthier the momentum will carry over into the first round. If they enter the playoffs playing at a high level from the goal out, then get ready for a fun ride.

Rob Ellis pointed out that Mezzy was the reigning Ashbee award winner and that Timonen is their best defenseman. He said Mezzy had taken a step back this season but there was no way the team was better off without either of them in the lineup.

Sadly, and this is particularly evident in Philly, there will always be a vocal section of the fan base who takes the negative view of everything no matter what. The sky is always falling. Slumping players need to be brutalized in to playing better and if they cant handle it too bad they make such and such amounts of money. Lets dehumanize them and make it worse.

For them being a "fan" does not mean supporting a team and willing them to victory by getting behind them. To them being a "fan" means I paid so I can boo and manifest the frustration I feel for my own crappy life by turning around and dumping on my sports team whenever something goes wrong.

We even see it here in Flyerbuzz from about the same % of people.

Good goaltending and good defense go hand in hand. If Bryz has time to focus on the hard saves, then his confidense gets better to make the easy saves... When Bryz is making the easy saves, it allows the defense to play a more aggressive game.

Did your delightful neighbor in the stands continue to attribute the goaltending to "luck"? Also, is he a regular neighbor?

The one change from Bryz that I like is how he is handling the post game interviews. It's actually a boring interview to watch but how he handles himself versus in the beginning of the year.

They still get their quotes but not like before.
