If he was that certain he would have re-signed already. You only end up a free agent if you want to test the waters or your team doesn't want you back. |

Lindy hasn't ruined Hodgson yet... he's still (after 5 games) the only Sabre who will actually skate with the puck TOWARDS the net and try to score, rather than taking the puck to the outside and shooting at the goalie's chest, or missing the net "on purpose" or throwing the puck blindly through the crease at a 89 degree angle.
Am I the only one who finds this aspect of Lindy's "coaching" atrocious?
Kudos to those who try to crash the net and get a deflection on the 89 degree angle passes but wtf kind of strategy is this?
If the Sabres actually were told to skate hard to the net with the puck, they might a) score on a breakaway, b) draw a hooking/holding penalty, c) or at least get some sort of scoring chance.
Every game I watch via Centre Ice, which I will be cancelling tomorrow, and see the same old thing, every single time we have the puck entering the offensive zone. It HAS to be coaching, because most skill players have a natural drive to try to score. Lindy has them turning off to the sides and either giving the puck away, or setting up difficult to receive passes.
Add in the other "brilliant" coaching strategy of telling whoever has the puck once you cross the blue line that you must stop on a dime and dish the puck off. This results in a) 70% chance the play is offside, since the non-puck carriers are seemingly unaware after nearly a season of this "system" that the guy with the puck is going to stop on a dime at the blue line, or b) 20% chance of the defenseman, having watched and endless loop of Sabres tape and knowing full well what is going to happen before the Sabres' winger, steals the puck and launches a breakaway the other way, c) 10% the play actually works, and the guy who receives the puck either shoots at the goalie, has it bounce over his stick, or misses the net on purpose.
Lindy is the problem here, folks, not the players. I hate being so pedantic about the "system" but it is what it is, agree? - Da_Cashman
Honestly, this is how you have to hope to score goals most of the time now. It's just the way the game is. Doesn't mean I like it or that sometimes I wished the more skilled guys around here wouldn't try doing that all the time. But "garbage" goals are more common than anything. |

Honestly, why do you think NJ would have been a more attractive option?
I don't want to get into the whole "my city is better than yours" because I'm not saying that. Just curious as to why you feel that way. |

I know sometimes when a big time guy is a Free agent, they might have a few places they want to play, but the whole players dont want to go to Buffalo because its Buffalo is a farce. |

I would think it was hysterical if we signed Marchand when he became a free agent. Even though I don't want that rat on the team. |

As far as the cities themselves go, I can see NJ being the more attractive option because of it's close proximity to NYC. I know Kovy was taking his family life into consideration and his wife is an actress (or something) I believe. But I'm just going off of assumptions. |

he played for the devils for the short period between the TD and playoffs and knew the atmosphere and winning tradition and that he knows Lou would always put the best team he could on the ice and the fact the devils hadnt missed the playoffs since 96, so he knew he would have a chance to win as a devil
now if he got offers from other teams that have had a history of winning and are competitive every year then he may have gone somewhere else, but he believes the devils gave him the best opportunity |

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but I do find it amusing that they missed the playoffs last year for that very reason.
The Devils definitely have a good winning tradition but I feel like the game has passed Lou by a little bit. He's still a great GM, but there are aspects of his job that need to be adjusted based on the way the league has changed (like not negotiating during the season). So many other guys are signing contracts during season because they have to. It's that or really risk losing them at the end of the year. With the way the FA market has been recently, it's so much more important to hang onto those key pieces if possible.
That was a very well thought out answer though. I appreciate it. Again, not trying to stir the pot. Just some observations I've had. |

I can see that. I'm not a huge fan of how they're doing it either. It seems they just keep trying to smash different pieces together and hope it works. It's not really working out so well for them. |

Not negotiating during the season to me opens up Pandora's box. Parise may have every intention of going back to NJ until someone throws him some ludicrous amount of money that NJ can't/won't match. |

devils lost due to a clueless coach, not due to kovalchuk
there are some things lou should do differently but all the players really appreciate Lou and his ways especially when it comes to players issues such as contracts, they know he is a very loyal person and takes care of his players, Lou has gone out of his way to assist players, ex players, ex coaches and employees, i doubt parise makes it to UFA
