I think its extreme to say they fleeced the ticket holders while we have the 23rd most expensive tickets in the League. No one put a gun to thier head.
3/4 of the team was hurt.
Where the Sabres failed(miserably) was when Pegula took over, he made such outlandish promises that he was going to succeed at a business that he had no experience at. There was so much pomp and cirmcumstance all the time. Then after all that he crammed a couple of new guys in, kept 92% of it status quo and thought it would work. Pegula is less focused on "Winning the cup at all costs" and more focused on trying to prove to everyone that this core of players and coaches can be bought a cup overnight.
Pegs shoulda kept his mouth shut. - Buffalo--Sabres
True. His two biggest mistakes, keeping Darcy and promising Ruff a job for life. Ugh.

I am actually surprised to see that for LWs in the NHL.
Vanek is 16th in goals scored and 18th in points. 7.1M well spent. |

that's not true at all...
from "the hardest working team in hockey" to the post-lockout "ferrari"...
for the years after driere, he tried to get them to play more of a team game predicated upon defense...they didn't have the talent to run like the ferrari although some on the team thought they could
lindy's a bonehead, more often than not as of late, but to say he doesn't play to his strengths is inaccurate - b0s0o1
And I would argue Boos that the only style of hockey Lindy wants to coach or knows how to coach well is the hardest working team style.
He only played the ferrari style because he had little choice in the year after the lockout, with all the penalties being called and the flow of the game being supersonic.
Even during that year, there were stretches where he had the team playing his old style of hockey. He can't resist coaching that.
That leads to an idenitity problem overall for the team.
They built the roster with the thought of speed, skating, and skill.
Now the game has slowed down considerably and those are not nearly as important as being big, being a human roadblock, playing the cycle, playing the wall, etc.
That leaves the coach wanting to coach his old, favorite style of play with a team full of guys that are ill suited for that.
So either get a coach in that plays to the strength of the team or keep the coach and get rid of all the players that don't fit how he wants to coach.
They have been doing things halfway for years now, and that's the reason they have been the definition of mediocre. |

The Sabres played not to lose last night.
The outcome was never in question when you play like that.
This was the 2nd time they had a chance to grab that last playoff spot and choked. - Pope of Pucks
The rope a dope style of play being coached has gone past the point of nauseating to watch. |

Pommer is 11th in the NHL for RW in goals and 5th in total points.
In 2010-2011 - Vanek was 5th in Goals for LW and 6th in Points.

............ don't take this the wrong way.... are you a very very attractive female buffalo sabres fan? or do you just have big ?
Can't imagine that there would be too much love between buffalo and boston fans unless one of the 2 previous statements was true. |

3rd perdiod. Rocked at the blue line by Boychuk - CoHo_to_B-Lo
that was a monster hit. boychuk lit him up. but i was very impressed at vanek getting right back up and finishing his shift, albeit only was 10 more seconds.
the garden was no louder than when vanek got blasted. louder even then when they scored 3 goals. on the bright side, i didnt get a beer dumped on me like i did at the last sabres game |

I beg to differ... Pegula did exactly what he should have done as a owner with big pockets that has intentions of doing what he can as the owner to win as much as possible and bring a cup to buffalo. From a pr point he said exactly what he needed to,to get the backing from the fans and the league and to pump and rile up the buffalo fans to a frenzy and have high expectations from his team.
This is Pegula's first year as the owner I REPEAT first year as the owner. He only owned the team for what 20? games last year or so. The guy does not even get 1 full year to own the team and fans such as yourself are already crying. Pegula did exactly what he said he was going to do he gave the green light to Darcy to spend what ever he needed to make the team better and a contender. Darcy went out and made some good trades this year, picked up some good free agents as well as signed his own players to new deals. On paper everything looks fantastic and the sabres looked like instant contenders. The Sabres started off as one of the hottest teams in the nhl and then they got decimated by injuries to most of the starting forwards and starting defense. Now that the team is healthy for the most part they are alot more competitive. Pegula is doing exactly what he said he was going to do. It is now up to the players if they are up to the task to contend. If you or anyone else thought Lindy was going to get axed you were smoking something good. Of course Pegula is going to give lindy a year or 2 with no restrictions and the money in place to secure better players to compete on a higher level. On a side note even if Terry has intentions of blowing up the team from the start it takes more then 1 year to roll a whole roster over while still trying to captivate the fans and staying competitive. |

the fans in my section were the nicest i have seen them at any game in my boston history.
the guys i met out at the bar later however, were not. got challenged to a fight by a guy claiming that 'seguin is the best player in the nhl' and 'the bruins have the best backup goalie in the league' (he was not happy when i replied with turco?), oh and my personal favorite 'tim thomas single handedly won the usa a silver medal 2 years ago' |

WGR550 talking about Myers.
I know this will be an unpopular thought but I really hope Darcy entertains the notion of making Myers available as a piece involving an established scoring commodity in the off season.
Myers in my opinion is not going to ever be anything better than an average defenseman. Honestly , you Myer lovers have to admit he has more bad games than good games. And at some point "you guys" have to stop using his age as an excuse. Just the truth.
I would involve him in any deal that is going to have a proven goal scorer coming back our way.The system appears to be deep in defenseman not in goal goal scorers.
If they were serious with this 3 year talk , then trading someone like Myers from an organizational area of strength should help this franchise in its quest for a Cup.
Stop trading power forwards like Kassian that are not all that rare but rare enough when your team gets pushed off the puck on a far to consistent as it is Darcy. You are supposed to be making "smart trades" as you like to call them Darcy. Well then trading a power forward for another smallish centerman when your team is full of that type of player to begin with, well lets just say was not smart!
Start using your position of organizational depth to acquire the pieces we need to move forward. The defense. That is the "smart move" to make Darcy.
Still cant believe he traded away a power forward while he knew he was losing Goose as well. Some smart hockey moves huh? Sorry I know some will debate this with me saying the team has played better since the deadline. The team has played better because of one reason and one reason only = Miller. Darcy needs to "smarten up" . - TerryPegs
What are the Odds Myers turns into a good Joe Finely or a Bad Chara?
