The Devils did the same thing in the Rangers game, sitting back too much, and bounced back and picked up the pace.

Kovalchuk has been really bad since his second goal. A lot of stupid plays and a lot of turnovers. If the Devils keep the aggressive tempo, we win. If we sit back, the Isles will have at least four glorious chances and are bound to capitalize on one.

He's right though. Look, I'm just as furious at the glacially slow progress, but if they are going to miss the playoffs, which they are, then the higher the pick they get, the better. Am I happy about it? No. But that's the reality this franchise has created and if they're only going to spend like $10m under the salary cap floor in actual salary (without the cute accounting tricks that get them to the floor), then this is probably what we're going to be in for more seasons than not. Might as well make the best of a horribly bad situation and at least get the better prospects.

It's why I'll beat the dead horse again and say they should have been sellers at the deadline. No use hanging onto assets that will likely leave in the offseason, but do just enough for the rest of this season to squeeze out a few more pointless wins.

No young Russian player playing in the KHL ever puts up attractive looking numbers, can't go by that. Case-in-point: Ovechkin had 13g, 27p in 37 games in his draft year.

This tem has so many excuses. I lost count how many. It's either to many days off or two little. We have a lousy building and injuries. Milbury left the system bare.
