Vanek hasn't played for Austria since 2009. It says in there that the four year case can be back dated as well. he would be elgible to play for USA if he wanted.

id bet seguin, hall, eberle, and possibly RNH make the team.

it is possibly RNH doesnt make the team and they play a vet for experience...then u see RNH at the next 3 olympics.

- big_dion

Hey by then Seguin will have lived in the US for 4 years lock it up lol

I was just thinking about this too. Don't forget Ryan Whitney was on the team and I am hoping by 2014 he is playing at the top of his game and can maybe replace Rafalski's spot...

Potntial roster:

Parise Kesler Callahan
Brown Stastny Kane
Ryan Pavelski Kessel
Backes Oshie Stepan
Pominville

Whitney Suter
McDonaugh Yandle
EJ JJ
Carlson Byfuglien/Orpik

Thomas/Miller/Howard/Quick/Schneider....

With Parise, Callahan, Brown, Backes, Pominville...and the extra leadership of Kesler, Suter... could be scary..

- SabresOnAWarpath

I'm betting the goalies go
Quick Miller Howard/Schneider...

Quick was on the roster last time, and given he keeps getting better, I'd give him the nod. Miller will be the veteran guy who we know can play if needed. Howard and Schneider are the two wildcards, hard to say who gets the call between them. Thomas I think wont get the nod either age, or just the fact that these younger guys are ready.

This of course assumes that everyone continues to improve as they have been. Team USA will be strong between the pipes no matter who gets the call though.

how would you compose the top 12? I think I'd go..

Parise Kesler Kane
Ryan Pavelski Kessel
Brown Stepan Callahan
Backes Stastny Pominville

Oshie, Gionta

Suter-Yandle
Orpik-Byfuglien
McDonagh-Fowler

Shattenkirk, Carlson

Miller, Quick, Schnieder (no room for Howard)

That'd be my 12 but I'm wondering if we might see a name like Palmiere in there. Only omission is Van Riemsdyk. That's the only one I'd add.

Would be a huge mistake for Canada to overlook MDZ. 35 pts, plus-26, he's only 21 and continues to improve.

This talk has me convinced.

The world won't end in 2012. The hockey gods wouldn't rob us of the 2014 olympic games.

- martok2309

I hate to say this, but if I was the NHL, I wouldn't want to participate.

All the financial risk, none of the financial reward.

Contrary to popular internet opinion, it does not boost TV ratings for the NHL post-Olympics.

Huge disruption to your schedule.

And did I mention the IOC are bastard pirates?

Better to restart the Canada Cup / World Cup.

Hold it in September, in NHL (and European) rinks.

Keep all the money.

Besides, they have a groovy trophy - designed by Frank Gehry:

That last spot I slotted Pominville in will probably be up for grabs. He's having a tremendous season but who knows if he'll maintain it. Might be JVR or Wheeler by the time 2014 rolls around.

The main thing everyone has to realize is that inevidably injuries play a huge part in these situations...

It's okay to have an opinion but you clearly haven't watched much of Spezza this year then.
- Lohaus

he is having a great year thats true . . . but he had great years before and he had a couple dreadful ones! one good year dont cut it in my eyes . . . how about Jim Carey that year he back stopped to Capitials he played great won the vezina and where was he 2 years later???? if Spezza comes out next year and puts up the same numbers then he should be on the team but untill then i well leave him home

And we never know what can happen on these two years. Pre 2010 Olympics no one expected doughty so to never really know.

Side Note.... Correct me if I'm wrong but..... the word around Denver is that Stastny is gonna be traded or would be highly available for trade isn't it??

I don't know why JJ get's all the hype.

Refuses to play for Carolina. Goes to Hollywood and contends for the green jacket.
And now is really happy to pay for Columbus?!

This guy is f'ed

All I know is that Stastny is single handedly killing my fantasy team. Every other night he manages to become a -2.

Peter Stastny played for Czechoslovakia, Canada and Slovakia. Such was the world of hockey before the fall of Communism in Europe.
- Bleezer

I totally forgot about that one.

1984 Canada Cup.

Funny, because I had a poster in my bedroom with the faces of the Team Canada roster (I was bummed when Vaive didn't make the final roster).
