Ahhhhh...

There were more Flames fans there that's for sure.

I think Alberta is claiming the state of Phoenix as our own pretty soon here.

I'm surprised to see that there are no defenseman of the Leafs, the best dcore in the league, in either of these Olympic teams...

It bears repeating......PHANEUF
How can you ignore the coverboy of NHL 09
He'd be great in his customary position, fishing pucks from behind Luongo....against the Swiss...as he won't be playing any better competition should Lu even make it.

Canada is better on paper at all positions IMO.
USA doesnt have the same depth as Canada, USA has plenty of stars--Canada has more of them. And Canada has the super high end players throughout the whole lineup. USA has some heart and soul guys in Brown, Kessler, Backes and Oshie, Shattenkirk is getting better and is on pace for 45-50 points this year. USA will represent. USA, Sweden, Russia, and then Canada is best. IMO
Russia will be stacked offensively with Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Semin, Ovechkin, Malkin, Tarasenko, Kuznetsov.

funniest thing about this whole topic is that we all seem to be forgetting how the last Olympics went....having stars (USA,SWE) or multiple superstars (CAN) barely means anything if you dont have a hot goalie, anyone remember what Hiller and Halak almost did to us?

it all doesnt matter in the end, at this point and in this era the Goalie needs to be on point like its the cup finals (gm7) all day every day the top 4 or 5 teams all have 6 D who play in the NHL they all know how to shut down these superstars, they play in the league

its a fact, its all about D and Goaltending Fleury and Price have both proven they can win at the highest stage, same with Lundqvist and Kiprussoff (altho its clearly the Rinne show in FIN now) Miller and Luongo not so much

Looking at actual top 6 its pretty close. Sweden too even.

Theres a pretty big drop off for US and Sweden after the top though.
Looking at second and third string teams and Canada has it hands down.
Of course that doesn't really matter.

Canada having more top level defencemen just means they will have a larger pool of players playing well at the time to choose from. Thats where they edge out the rest.

Touche!

My only this is that Miller/Crosby/Stamkos had been in the NHL for years before joining hte Olympic ranks. It just might be too early for Hall, Eberle, and Tavares.

I think Tavares and Eberle are great talents but I would imagine that Nash would be better automatically.

- JVince117

Tavares and Eberle are both better players than Nash today. The guy is an overpaid lug.

Canada could have two olympic teams if they wanted. Absolutely no question Canada's defense is better then the USA's, in fact everyone else's. I would put Sweden second, above the US.

Crosby is almost a crapshoot to be on the team at this point, so here's Crosby-less Canada

Perry - Toews - Stamkos
Hall - Tavares - Giroux
Lucic - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Neal - Spezza - Marchand
Duchene/Seguin/Skinner

Weber - Pietrangelo
Keith - Doughty
Letang - Subban
Myers/Seabrook

Price
Fleury
Ward

Honestly, who (frank)ing knows when it comes to the forwards. Maybe Crosby is back to form.

Also Getzlaf, Richards, Carter, Sharp. I don't know about Heatley and the SJ guys to be honest. What's sickening is the center depth.
