Ah the Olympics. The only time you'll ever see Leaf fans, Hab fans, Oiler fans and Flames fans come together and root for the same team. It's also the only time any of those fanbases will actually root for one of the good teams.

I wouldn't rag on the Americans for their form of democracy at all. Canada has the elected house of commons, where the leader of the party with the most seats is the prime minister, then we have the senate which is appointed by the prime minister, then we have the governor general which is a figurehead appointed by the prime minister. We have multiple parties but it doesn't do us any good due to the first past the post voting system. First past the post is meant for a 2 party system, which is why we have a united right (progessives and reform), and why our left is slowly merging together (NDP + Liberal), the problem with this is what were currently seeing with the conservatives having a majority government with 60% of the seats in the house even though they only recieved 40% of the votes. Now theyre able to pass bills the majority of Canadians don't support, such as the Omnibus crime bill, and the Protecting Children from Online Predators act.

My understanding of the American system, is that it has 3 levels of federal government which are all elected (congress, senate, president), it makes bills far more difficult to be passed, but its designed that way through their constitution, due to the founders being fairly libertarian and following the ideologies of John Locke.

i dunno about these pairings, right now for Canada the only sure thing is Webber, Letang and Keith.....i think its too early to say for sure that the other 3 are a certainty i'm not even sure why Doughty seems to be a big thing he hasnt been the same since his monster rookie year imo

there's plenty of D on Canada that are waiting to steal those 3 spots

I was at the Flames-Coyotes game in PHX last week. Glencross batted a puck out of mid-air and into the stands and received a 2-min delay of game penalty.

Then some dumb american in a "Gretzky" Coyotes jersey turned around and told me that Canadians need to learn how to control their sticks better. He then proceeded to tell me a Canadian team would never win the cup again because American teams buy all the Canadian players because the dollar is so weak.

Needless to say that guy definately didn't win our argument!

Not saying this is how all American fans are. Just a funny story though.
