He gave a worse 2nd line Center than Roy.. Grabo 5.5 M for the next 5 years.
Why not throw away another 150k - JVince117
Grabo has better numbers than Roy this year.
Thats the going rate for top 2 centers right now.
What do you think Roy will get on the market? |

Maybe Burke will do it. - Bleed B&G
I'm sure teams are doing some research on their rookie Hutchinson. He might be a great goalie who can't move up with the Thomas/Rask situation. I personally don't know anything about him, other than he's got a .920 & a 2.62 in Providence. I'm sure teams are weighing his value vs. Turco. If Turco will be a LOT more beneficial to the Bruins, someone will make a move. |

I can't take credit, I'm not scheduled for another Pens blog on the main page until the Sunday Bruins game. icedog97 has today and then Friday there is a grad student doing the writeup. - Gunner Staal

Roy's career numbers and ppg numbers make Grabo look like Wade Belak.
I think Roy on the open market could get a Ehrhoff type deal meaning that he would have like a 5M base salary but bonuses could make it 8 or 9M.
With Olli, Stoll, and Gaustad being the only good Centers on the UFA market this summer. Roy's trade value just sky-rocketed.
Roy, Vanek, Adam, 1st, for Stastny, Downie, Jones, and thier 2nd. |

We've already talked about Downie, Jones is a UFA, and it's up to Washington if Colorado has a 2nd round pick this year. |

Eh, it will all come down to how next season goes for him. If he repeats this year, he'll be lucky to get anywhere near that. |

Roy was also a 2nd round draft pick.
Has had a longer career thus far.
Grabovski has only 4yrs under his belt.
Not that I would want him, I do understand why Toronto gave him his money. |

I don't see why his draft position would have anything to do with his salary at this stage of his career. I just think that if Roy has another season of barely 40 points, he'd be hard pressed to ask for a raise. It's a contract year, though, so he'll most likely step it up. Hopefully we won't have to worry about it much after draft day. Hopefully. |

Are we sure about this.
I've seen sites that have them having it and some don't
Colorado drafted 2nd overall and 11th overall last year.
EDIT:Colorado does not have St Louis's pick this year
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=553408
The draft picks will be used in the 2011 Entry Draft unless the Blues have a top-10 selection, in which case St. Louis can opt to transfer its 2012 first-rounder instead. If that happens, the Avs will send their second-round pick to St. Louis in 2012 instead of 2011. |

Forgot the part of Grabovski being a 5th rounder that took longer to develop and make the NHL.
Sorry had an incomplete thought for a min there. |

I don't really see a need to get rid of Vanek. He's been on a slump for like 2 weeks. He's still got one of the best shot on the team. I only move Vanek if the return is a DEFINITE #1 center.
Roy definitely needs to go, hopefully paired with a pick or two for one of those names.
Stafford won't be traded, he's freshly signed and is not as bad as his play this season.
Sekera, I could take him or leave him... could spice up a trade package, but again, I'd want a decent return for him, he gets a worse rap than deserved.
Gerbe, unfortunately I agree might need to go. As the season has worn on he's been less and less effective, plus people are starting to know that he's stronger than he seems, and are leaning into him harder. He needs to pick up his O game or else he'll be worked out of the league.
Ellis needs to go back to Rochester. McCormick can stay or go, but we have him signed for 2 more years on a one way contract, so I doubt he goes very far.

He wasn't playing horribly the whole time, he had a bunch of bad luck and some great chances in the earlier handful of those 25 games. He's only lately turned into a totally uninspired player. I don't see that slump as reason enough to trade him... He's also 2nd on our team in scoring by 11 points. Maybe two weeks is an underestimation on the total length of the "slump," but I don't think he's been bad enough to trade, and certainly was putting forth an effort until 2 (maybe 3) weeks ago. |

It does seem like inflation has been on the rise REALLY fast lately. A year or two ago That Grabo deal would have been 3.5-4, for a 40-50 pt guy. |
