After listening to Blair and his callers - Im not so sure that Carlyle is the right guy - Anaheim was terrible this year with Carlyle - basement of the west with CLB - now with a players type of coach with Boudreau the Ducks are only 6pts out of the playoffs and now 1 game over .500 - They havent added anyone of any significance to their roster
Im not so sure that the hard ass routine will work on the 2nd youngest team in the league
They were also commenting that Burke is now the focus of the fans if losing continues to the end of next year - MTL1

Gordie Howe should (frank) off. All this talk about how tough that guy was, but his fights could be counted on 2 hands. They should call it a Bobby Orr hat trick. - weirdoh
Gordie Howe would have wiped the ice with Bobby Orr |

Potentially, but fromt he rumblings it sounded like Schenn would have fetched more, again no way to be sure, but annoys me that it may have been a possibility - mfreedman
Burke said Schenn(Grabs/mac) could have fetched a 1st round pick in a weak draft but he had no interest in a pick that wouldn't help until 3-4 years down the road..
A guy like Ashton has more value at this point than a mid-late 1st in a weak draft and i doubt he could have landed a player like that for Schenn at this point, he has struggled and doesn't have a whole lot of value right now....

Coaches have a shelf life. He simply reached his expiry date with the ducks.

Yes and no.
Love his systems, hate his personality for this young and fragile group. - jbold
poor lil rascals....this is the problem...they have been coddled far too long, by their coach and the media.
carlyle is exactly what the team needs-give 100% or get the hell out.
finally, some accountability. |

Looks like Carlyles shelf life will be dependent by the next 2 summers following this one
Summer 2013 - Lupul UFA
Summer 2014 - Kessel, Phaneuf UFA
If these 3 re-sign before they become UFA's then to a degree - its a vote of confidence for Carlyle |

the soft, undisciplined approach does not work with young players.
they need structure and discipline-accountability and responsibility.
carlyle was a perfect choice.
in the off season burke needs to find the 'truculence' he promised. |

Coaches have a shelf-life.
Carlyle won a cup, his time then ran out in ANA
Tortorella won a cup, his time then ran out in TB
....
it happens.. Teams need fresh voices after a while |

give them some time.. its gonna take a hell of alot longer than two games to learn carlyle's systems
they likely wont even look like a competent group til about game ten |

they both broke into the league under carlyle as rookies, how is that any different? - Dozzer
And Kessel broke into the league under Claude Julien, another hard nosed coach. Look what happened.
I don't expect Kessel to be on the team when his contract is up. Not making the playoffs+personality clash with Carlyle. |

Gordie Howe would have wiped the ice with Bobby Orr - Popcorn Kid
Not so sure about that......nobody ever said Orr couldn't fight.
G. Howe played in 2187 games (NHL and WHA) and had 25 fighting majors.
B. Orr played in 657 games and had 47 fighting majors. |

Again Burke said himself Sat night that he had no interests in picks that wouldn't help until years down the road...
Burke is and has been trying to win now all along..It's never been about the draft for him... |
