From the IIHF
Change of national eligibility (The ‘four-year’ case)
A player, who has previously participated in IIHF competition, can switch national eligibility (but only once in a player's life) if:
* He is a citizen of the new country of his choice
* He has participated for at least four consecutive years in the national competitions of his new country, during which period he has neither transferred to another country nor played ice hockey within any other country and has not played for his previous country in an IIHF competition during this four year period.
* He has an international transfer card (ITC) that shows the transfer to the national competition of his new country and which was approved and dated at least four years before the start of the IIHF competition in which he wishes to participate. - JVince117
That would mean Myers will have to tell team Canada no to playing in the worlds when the season is over.

I've said it many times that Chara didn't become this dominate force till around 30yrs old.
I got blasted for it. - dadeadhead
I know I wouldn't have disagreed with you. Top pairing defensemen and power forwards probably take the longest to develop out of any position in the NHL. There are exceptions, of course, but very few.

As far as I know, Myers hasn't done this. Also, I believe the key word is "new country", as in he became a citizen of this new country after he played in an international competition for another. Myers was already a citizen of both the US and Canada when he made his choice. - buffalofan19

Not sure why he would switch now anyway, did he just lose his Canadian pride overnight? Or did Winnipeg make him mad at Canada? Of course he'd play for Canada again, I don't even think it's a question.

Myers still has a couple years before he fills out. Until then he'll be that tall skinny guy with twig arms. He's got all kinds of size, but not much strength. - BuffaJoe
All while he's eating 5.5 in cap space.
If it takes him 4-5 yrs for this to happen, how happy will everyone be?

Myers has played bad the first half of each of the last two seasons but then really played very well the 2nd half of each of the last 2 seasons.
He just needs to find a way to come out and play good hockey all year.
I remember him saying that each of the last 2 years with all of the added weight/muscle he has been putting on that it takes his body awhile to adjust to the conditioning.

my guess is if we come out flat, roy and coho will be switched
I blame vanek more then roy though
I am not opposed to switching vanek with gerbe - homiedclown
I've been on the "Roy is a cancer and needs to go" train for years, but that's not why I want to see Hodgson with Vanek. It's simply the fact that you brought the guy in here in hopes that he can be your #1 guy. Why not see what he can do with your big guns? If anything, I would think that a steady player like Pominville would do wonders for his development.

Maybe he is the type of guy that just can't add/keep the weight on.
I also wouldn't say he's playing really well right now.
Is he playing better? Yes
Is he playing really well? Not at all. He's always out of position out there.

he was 185 his rookie year.. and is now listed as 221.
he is not as fast as he once was.
We are all walking into hypocrisy. We want him to put weight on to become a more physical d-man but then we will complain about how he has lost his speed and agility.

I can't imagine that playing Hodge's first game in Buffalo against a inferior opponent wouldn't be a good game to try Hodge on 1st line.
Maybe Ruff starts off with the regular line.. if we were to get a 2 goal lead then maybe mix it up a little with Hodge up front.

False.
Would I like to see him add muscle? Yes.
Does he seem like a guy that does well when he does? No
Do I think Lindy is part of the problem with Myers? Abso(frank)inglutely.

Concerning Myers I see both sides of the coin. I can see how some want to dump him now because he's inconsistent and walking into a big $$ contract. I also see potential and a huge frame that can skate pretty well..
I'm just not willing yet to see Darcy look like the next Hartford Whaler GM or the next Ottawa Senator/NY Isle's GM.
The kid's either going to dominate or be a pretty decent defenseman while making a good buck. That said, if he could be moved to get a Getzlaf type Center then he's got to be in the discussion.

The only way I would move Myers is if it was for a Getzlaf type player with 5+ year contract.
Trade away Myers for a guy with 1 year left on his contract and no guarantee he resigns.

Bingo.
Do I want to just give up on him? Not at all.
Would I move him for a key piece for a real shot at a cup in the near future? Yep, no question.

half seasons aren't worth 5.5. I think we really jumped the gun on that signing, I think Myers could have been had for less after back to back mediocre campaigns. I think he'll be a force eventually, but it was a bad move to sign him before this season. He also was never really faced with a "contract year" situation. If he had been forced to define his number through his play this year, maybe he would have worked a little harder, making that stomach-able while also developing further.
