I went to Fredonia! You missed out on a great time not living there! haha

I have friends who are the same way... I've never received big $ on my Bdays, and some of mine would get upwards of $500 bucks from family on their bdays... 10 year olds can't spend that much and they were able to save. Their parents also paid for their schooling and gave them cars with gas. They understand though... I had to buy my own car, and gas, and have had to take loans for school. Only one time one of them kinda got on me, after I explained why I can't/haven't been able to save he kindly shut up about it.

I did however receive some money from my nana when she passed. That's how I bought my first car! I also bought a couple things that would last me, and I would enjoy because well, that's what she would have told me to do. I played golf in Community college with inferior equipment, so for my second year I bought my golf clubs. I won't have to buy those for many years. I knew I would be transfering so I bought my own TV. Again, something I have no need to buy for many years.

The only big thing that was paid for me at all was my first car. My mom used her tax return and bought it from the guy I dated through high school who is a mechanic. It was his winter car. An 89 Beretta that didn't have the original engine in it and was pieced together from the junk yard. I loved that car though. The only reason she even did that for me was because I was an awesome kid. I was on the Honor roll and graduated with Honors 24th in my class out of 212. She felt I had really worked hard for it. To help me out with college, she paid for my insurance while I was in school. It wasn't that much because it was only liability coverage. But it certainly helped and I appreciated her doing it for me.

You must have 4 yrs as an NHLer to be eligible
- Purple Eagle

Well, there's team elected and then there's player elected. Team elected is something you're eligible for before the player elected. Is that the 4 year one? The team elected?

My parents pay my insurance... They said it's the only thing they can/could help me with. They said we can't buy you the car, or help you at all with school, so we'll cover your insurance.

That's why I was looking at nursing. Those types of fields have maintained and/or grown over the years. I'm not really a huge fan of it, but if it makes me live more comfortably, I'm all for it.

I'm considering looking for a second job. I have a set schedule so it's wouldn't be too bad to try and find something else. Just to put a little extra cash in my pocket. I'm able to pay my bills and whatnot right now, but things are definitely tight. The only reason I can afford to do season tickets is because they're in my best friends name and he'll let me pay for them as I have the money for it. I almost always give him the money early or at least on time, but knowing that he's got my back if need be makes it easier.

totally with ya. i'm looking at ironworking, which is a complete 180 from what i'm doing now, working in a factory quality lab. it's been a great living. i've been with the company for over a decade. i've gotten to know the people who work there like they themselves are my relatives. i love them all to death, but i just need to sh.it or get off the pot. my marriage and home depend on my steady ability to contribute.

I think so... Most teams use it if a player is trying to get a two year deal to get them to UFA status, the team would want a deal to make sure they're a RFA when that contract is up so they go to Arb because most rulings are 1 year deals.

Doesn't appear that he put his hip into him or put his foot b/t his legs. I think he just lifted and bad-assed him to the ice.

Betcha' Gerbe could do that to him too!

I believe he's an apprentice currently. I just know he gets really frustrated about it. He hates not working.

Thankfully some of the factories around here are really busy, my parents semi depend on them to survive. We ourselves had to completely change our business model.

We used to have 5 mobile catering (lunch) trucks on the road and that was all we did, while making meat pies and sausage... We also had contracts for some vending machines as well.

Now we have 1 truck, and no contracts. Kinda shows how the economy/job market has changed since the 80's- mid 90's

Now we have a full deli, do lunches and most of our business is our catering.. We're getting busier and busier by the year on the catering, so that's a good thing.

I don't think it matters. Pretty sure 4 years if the floor for any arbitration unless you are a late signing.

I feel like sometimes when I'm watching Erik Karlsson that he's playing adult league... he's a gifted offensive player.

For some reason I thought the team had the option like a year or two earlier than the player. I'm obviously wrong though.

even further off topic, my verizon wireless contract is up and i'm looking for any info on everybody's experiences. i'm willing to take a basic phone contract in order to save money as we have internet at home. i'm also willing to look into a Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile type where you sacrifice some quality of service.

don't need monetary details, btw. just looking for service carrier and overall experience/satisfaction with service.

I did a brief search. Couldn't find anything that stated otherwise. I didn't really search that hard though either.

I worked at Verizon. The service is unbeatable. You can actually really get what you want out of customer service if you really want to as well as long as you push hard enough.

My issue with any of the basic phones that are out there now is they all suck. They aren't durable, the cameras on them stink and they all seem to turn themselves off all the time.

If you are anywhere near the canadian border throughout the day, stick w/VZ. Rogers et al periodically blow out the signals from any other US carrier. Becomes a real PitA.
Talk to people where you work, live and hang out and ask their experience.
There is a website that details power strengths in WNY.

right now we both have slide phones which are like the lowest web capability and they're $10 data plans. one of my wife's co-workers basically said the same exact thing you just did. think we may have to try it.

Some talk of Marty Turco not clearing waivers tomorrow. If claimed by another team,he can't play. Bruins will use him in games if he clears.

What's up with this? Why would a team claim Turco and he can't play for them, but can play for the Bruins if he clears waivers? Would that team who claimed him be doing it just to screw the Bruins? Wouldn't Turco be pissed too?

Honestly, are you having any issues with your current phones? If not, I would just leave it be. More than likely you're going to sign a new contract for an "upgrade" that you'll end up hating. Just my honest opinion.

ironically, almost all of my coworkers at my full timer use VZW. as far as the part time job goes, i have no idea if any of my coworkers there pay for their phones or if their parents do. speaking of which, i'm on the verge of 30 this year, working with people barely hitting 20 or just past 21. i'm the 3rd oldest person at my store.

Maybe he worded it wrong. I have no idea otherwise. That just seems silly.
