na most of his penalties are trips, holds and hooks either way its nothing major
- Slammed81

he's getting in people's way. imo that is what he's paid to do. if he can pull it off with less penalties then huzzah.

The hit looked clean as a whistle to me, but I am confused about all this stuff about rule 48 and what constitutes a "vulnerable" position.

But on another topic, I really hope we can avoid the Pens in the first round. Crosby (now that it seems certain he will be back) and Malkin will carve this defense to pieces (even more than usual).

They better not let Grossman go away. It was a thing of beauty to see him completely shield Franzen and then slide him across the crease and away from the puck.

I thought Coburn sucked donkey balls today and Gusty lost every board battle I could see (I watched from right before the hit)

I'd be ok losing Carle if his upcoming/estimated salary let's us keep Grossman and Kubina. I'm not sure if that's realistic though, moneywise at least, but we could rotate Gus and Bourdon into the rotation to fill Carle's hole.

Ever had it? Not too expensive, for craft brews anyway, and it has a nice kick to it. Well worth trying.

None of those players can replace Carle and what he brings to the team.

I'm not completely sold on that, especially since we're talking about another year of experience for Bourdon and Gusty, but it's also a matter of $ and contract length. And also have more than 1 player on our blue line who hits. Let alone 2 players who can handle any big body in front of Bryz.

given that the head was the "principle point of contact", I don't see how kronwall avoids suspension...and there were no mitigating circumstances.

the bryz of PHO has returned

"No player should expect for his head to be picked as the primary point of contact intentionally or recklessly...."

This would be the problem with the hit, gentlemen....

I won't go that far. Baiting players has been around since the dawn of hockey, and I don't think it equates to an intent to injure. Kronwall is known for it, and Jake has a responsibility to know who is out on the ice with him and not fall for that kind of play.

You may feel that it's not very sporting, or perhaps even dirty to bait players like that, but it's not illegal. Some would argue that it's a art form. To me, none of that is relevant in terms of whether or not Kronwall should be suspended.

It all comes down to whether or not Shanny feels he could have avoided the head contact and chose not to do so.

If Kronwall played for Philly, everyone would be saying "he led with his shoulder and had his elbow down. It wasn't blindside. Nice hit!" I hate to see Jake crushed like that and hope he is OK, but I'd be surprised if Kronwall gets press box time.

used to be a clean hit, now it's supposedly a no-no

Eh. I'm fine with that hit, but I ain't Shanny. We'll see tomorrow. I will say that I agree with those in here who said that someone should have gone after Kronwall, but with a two goal lead (most dangerous lead in the game and their current emphasis in discipline I can see why they didn't risk getting sent to the box. Take his number and dish out some payback in the cup finals

This.

And at least someone went after Kronwall there.

WTF? Why can't I post videos...the code isn't exactly science here...

NM, now it's there... lazy vids...

I remember watching that game live and being repulsed by that hit. No chance for Havlat. I think that hit altered Havlat forever.

Technically that type of hit is a clean hit - apart from leading with head contact. Again that's just a real cheap play IMO.
