I felt the same way you apparently do about that Briere hit, and you're right, the league did nothing. They still seem horribly inconsistent despite their efforts to be more transparent with the video explanations, etc. I thought Shannahan was off to a good start at the beginning of the year. Lately he's been all over the place. I don't know what to think anymore.

it he can suspend rinaldo for a shoulder to shoulder hit and come up with some confusing bullcrap to back up his point, he can fudge anything. as much as i feel k-wall deserves 5-10 games, i bet he'll end up with a small fine

Exactly. There is no consistency to Shanahan's rulings now.

In my opinion, I don't think Jake being "vulnerable" is the big issue here. He does have a responsibility to not leave himself wide open like that. Kronwall baited him and he fell for it. That's not what I have a problem with.

It's all about the fact that Kronwall had options to avoid the head shot and didn't take them. At least that's my opinion. I guess we'll see.

- BringBack25

I won't disagree with this. I've made this claim myself with countless other hits in the past. I've been called a sissy and that these types of plays happen in the game all the time. If you want hitting to be a part of hockey then this hit will be a part of it. Honestly, when I was growing up playing minor hockey, this hit would have been on a instructional video as being a perfect hard clean hit. No word of a lie.

I wonder if the beat reporters will call it a soft goal. Zetterberg made a heck of shot, if Roo did that MacDonald I'm sure that is how it would be written. Nonetheless, Bryz has been really hot is positioning and rebound control has been stellar.
- ravishingone

they probably will, and to be honest, i didn't like the goal. bryz was down way early, but perhaps he thought zetterberg was going to pass to the slot or shoot earlier. he just didn't recover in time.

he had a very strong game otherwise.

If I am the Flyers I still think about holding him out for a game. If you have to play Shelley you play him.
- MBFlyerfan

I would be really suprised if he isn't held out also. There is no need to rush him, Shelley can play some minutes on the 4th line. Bryz is on an extreme roll right now, the team just needs to concentrate on defense and like their chances to win.

WHAT

tell us foreigners what is happening

- Don'tForgetTocchet

Lavi was talking to one reporter, answering the question about Giroux not taking faceoffs because (the reporter said) "Giroux is not 100%." Lavi responded that Hartsy has been their best faceoff guy out there, so they threw him out there tonight to win faceoffs. TP must've laughed at the answer because that's when Lavi asked the above question.

Well Briere is still playing for the moment. There are 17 games left, there will be more injuries before the season is over, and probably several.
- PLindbergh31

There is no way Voracek doesn't have a concussion.

response to paragraph 1: so voracek ran into a stationery player?

response to paragraph 2: stevens would have been suspended for that hit if he did it today.

- flyerscup2011

1) Not completely stationary, no, but my point was that Kronwall was "holding the line", hence his ground.

2) No he wouldn't.

Whatever happened to "the perfect shot?" Because a goalie CANNOT physically take up all 24 SF of net. Like Bill Meltzer said, you tip the hat to the scorer because a goalie has to give a bit of net to the shooter and, in that case, the scorer nailed it. Most times, he won't - but most times it isn't Zetterberg.

He probably figured Zetterberg wouldn't be able to make that shot on his backhand, so he went down to cover the net, which would cover more net if you assume they guy won't make that shot. Maybe he didn't even know it was Zetterberg until it was behind him. I bet if Zetterberg was on his forehand Bryz would have held his ground more. Definitely a mistake, but not a terrible one IMO. Take a world class player to make that shot. (Or Ben Eager every 400 games)

That's what I thought. He was down early instead of using his size to play the post. It was a heck of a shot by an all-world player, but one that can be stopped. You don't like the opposition scoring on the first shot of the game.

That being said, Bryzgalov was excellent again tonight. He's really playing well now.

The league in general is all over the place now. PP's are down and clutching and grabbing are up. It's like they're getting us warmed up for what they're going to call in the playoffs. It blows.

it was an excellent shot. i don't think it was soft at all, i'm just saying i don't like how he played it. franzen's goal was similar. he picked a spot and buried it.
