I think Eric Staal could do some damage here. He could use the change of scenery but the Canes will never let him go.

he could do some SERIOUS damage but there is no way we can fit his 8.2M into our game.

Read somewhere on the trade deadline that the 'Canes have had internal discussions about possibly trading Staal at the draft... Think they can get quantity with his cap hit. Don't know where and can't remember where I read that or even if it was credible but I have to think Darcy would be on the phone for those trade talks... Give em both firsts, give em Roy give them just about anything they want.

our garbage, our garbage, our garbage for their captain and most talented player, hmmmmmmm
- buffalokb

They way we're playing this year, I know...

Although I don't think Stafford and Roy are really as bad as they've been this season. Not even close. we'll get decent value back, at least for Roy. Our pick could be pretty valuable too if we were to make it so. Also, LA could be becoming the Richards/Carter show, but I doubt Kopitar goes anywhere without both of our firsts and our best roster players.

the positive is that we have options come draft day, especially if our first is a top 8 pick. i honestly think the only guys worth trading for are getzlaf and e. staal, they are the only 2 players (centers) i can see making us a real contender. stastny while skilled isn't a warrior like getz or staal.

Agreed on Statsny. I've seen only small samples of Avs games over the last few years, but he seems to be a lot like the players that we have now. Loads of natural talent, mediocre work ethic and heart, and just a bit soft in general.

Yea I didn't know what to do with them...

As much as I'd like to see a guy like Konopka instead of Ellis.. there is only so many FAs that we can pick up yearly with such tight cap space.

Parros is the best fighter on the market and we need him. I dropped mcCormick out too.

Want to know whats would be really nice in Buffalo...

If we were like the Avs cap space... They only have 10 plays signed next year. while there is RFAs of Duchene, Johnson, Mueller, Downie, Wilson, O'Reilly.

They have 41M in cap space after this year.

I'm not sure how we realistically trade for all those guys, even if we include our two 1sts & 2nds...
Also, I like gerbe & kaleta... But they need to be on our 4th line instead of our 3rd
So to fill our 3rd line with quality players we'll need to go after a center more like pavelski who makes 4mil instead of a guy like staal who makes over dbl that... And get tougher on the cheap too with a guy like Dustin brown or Steve Ott whose cap#s are around 3mil

We have McCormick signed for 2 more years, though he is relatively cheap if he needed to be buried.

I don't think the Sabres are going to trade Stafford. We JUST signed him, and though Darcy is improving, he's still going to have some of his old tendencies. Stafford is still one of his prouder draft picks. And I've said it in a few post today, I just don't think he's as bad as he's been playing.

I also think that Vanek will do better without Roy. It could definitely be considered "reading into it," but I remember an interview with Vanek earlier in the year, when Roy was out for a game or two (or perhaps just returned after being knocked out earlier in a game... I don't remember the case). The reporter asked Vanek if the team got a boost from Roy returning to the lineup, and Vanek said "pfft, I dunno about THAT..." and then continued on how the rest of the team worked hard for the win.

I've read a couple times about Lindy favoring Roy, which is apparent from his lack of benchings. That could definitely piss off a player like Vanek, who seems to find himself in the doghouse a LOT, despite having just as productive seasons as Roy, if not more so.

Better?? I personally don't think Pavelski solves our #1 center need. I think he is just another really good 2nd line center.

I want a Vanek trade explored in the offseason. He won't be a leader on a championship team. Roy will be gone. Pominville is playing like he did last year, like sh*t.
- GilPerreault

The solution is simple...give vanek a 1st line center... just saying. he and pommer were doing fine until the put Roy on that line, then in short order that line gores to hell

But what GMs in their right minds are going to give up big 1st line centers like those two guys? Big in stature AND abilities. Yeah it's an @ss-load of fun to dream up these trade scenarios, but allow me to throw a wet blanket on things.

Those first round picks would look pretty good to a team like Carolina, and Roy (who I assume would be part of that deal) is really not that bad, just needs a change in scenery.
