this is madness
- Crimsoninja

Why? Tampa gives us fits every time we play them. I do not want to see the 0-4-1 during this playoffs. Boston has good defense and great goaltending with a good offense... that is the Flyers Kryptonite. Crosby is a game changer, and Fluery is a good goalie... Add Crosby to Malkin and Fluery and they become a tough team to match up against...

In order for us to play the devils, Pitts would have to be jumped by both the Devils and Flyers... So I doubt that is going to happen. I say we end up between 4 and 6 either facing the Penguins at 4 or 5, or 6th facing Panthers or Caps...

People keep saying the 6th seed is preferable, but I would rather the 4th... and hope NYR and Bos get eliminated just like in 2010...

Best outcome...
Rangers- Caps...Caps win
Boston- Ottawa...Boston win
Panthers- Devils... Devils win
Flyers- Pitt... Flyers win

Boston-Caps.. Caps win
Flyers-Devils... Flyers win

Flyers-Caps... Flyers Win.... Woot... 2010 all over again... Cheers... wouldnt it be nice?

When used in the correct way, it absolutely tells you what's actually happening on the ice
- MJL

And how long have you argued that its not a good stat in itself to use to grade players?

I wish I was alive during the 70s instead of now, what I would give to see a Stanley cup parade down broad street, to see the commys get pounded, to see the flyers of the 80s (the worst decade to not be the oilers or the islanders), however I thankfully missed the early 90s as I was still young child lol.
- flyers4487

Don't say that because then you'd be old now. I'll say this, there was nothing like the feeling of seeing the first Cup. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and by the time we got home from the game the neighborhood was in a state of elation. Cars loaded with fans, groups at every corner. Lot's of drinking and funny cigarettes too. Any you know what? There was very little fighting or destruction of property. Lots of streaking and mooning though. And the parade was the next day. We all hookied. As far as the Flyers in the '70's, love em or hate em, but teams were literally petriied to play them. I thought the mid-80's teams were great too and it would be interesting to see how the Cup Flyers would have fared against the Islanders and Oliers dynasties. As good as the mid 80's teams were they didn't anyone comparable to Parent or Clarke. Watching those two guys in their prime was something I'll never forget.

I hope it's not a maintenance day. They don't end well.

He looked like he got up slow after a he was hit head first into the boards early in yesterdays game. I hope it has nothing to do with that.

Didn't the Devils have those perceived Kryptonite things in 2010 yet still the Flyers beat them?
I'm feeling more and more like Tampa makes the playoffs at the 8 seed. knocks off the Rags and loses to Boston 2nd round. The Flyers make it to the conference finals to play Boston.

Injuries are bordering on the absurd at this point, most like every other year. Giroux by his standards played an awful game last night. Who knows what's going on.

I hear Macs just work. I'll have to buy one someday. I know my ipodtouch never freezes or or shutsdown unless the battery is dead.
- JoeRussomanno

Macs are nice for closed environment products, but I need something more adaptable. I use my computer for everything: games, music, television, movies, work.

Doesn't make it a bad stat. +/- simply tells you one thing. Whether a player is on the ice more for when a goal is scored for his team, or for the opposition. NO more, no less.

I have never used +/- alone to critique a player.

I think we are making the same argument. It paints a picture, but doesnt give it the best detail.

When looked at correctly it can help craft an image of a player.. but using it solely does it no justice.

Yeah, I don't see Turbo Tax being much use, what with this being a CPA office.

like when I guy skates off quick to the bench so it won't be on the ice when other team is on an odd man rush.

I agree. You can't blindly look a +/- alone and judge a player as a good defensive player or a bad one. +/- is not just a defensive stat. It is also an offensive stat. But the stat is still very useful in the correct context.

The Devil's defense and goaltending in 2010 was no where near as good as boston's is now, and our team was much different then too... So it's not a very good comparison...
