I think you are really short changing Lundqvist here. I watch a ton of Rangers games, and he very rarely allows a soft goal. Look at the season series with the Flyers this year. He has allowed zero soft goals in 5 games. The Rangers have been severely outplayed by the Bruins in all three meetings this year, and Lundqvist has managed to get them 6 points.

Not only is Lundqvist a mortal lock to win the Vezina, he's in the top 2 or 3 for the Hart Trophy. He's having one of the best seasons a goaltender has ever had.

- PLindbergh31

No Im not short changing him. He plays on team that plays excellent defensively. You're not winning a Vezina without one. HE gave up a softie yesterday and got beat high by marchand yesterday but the puck generously bounced out of the crease instead of into the net. However the Rangers don't give opposing teams space and time like the Flyers do. If they did Lundqvist would look better. Otherwise how do you explain Biron being so much better than he was with philly?

If anything it keeps him from wandering off into outer space. If his confidence and game are at high levels, keep him playing.

The thing that kills me is, he was a space cadet before he came here and struggled. Now people rip him for it, like if he wasn't so goofy he wouldn't have struggled.

Yeah like he developed some sort of borat persona to cover up his ability to play goalie. Oh wait, that was WIP and their ability to cover hockey.

It's give and take. Both the goalie and team defense help each other. Comparing Biron as a back up playing a handful of games and being a starter for Philly isn't a good comparison, IMO

The Rangers play their system very well, and rarely stray from it. They have a task master coach who demands accountability from every player. If you don't adhere to it, you don't play. That simple. That being said, Lundqvist still faces a good amount of quality chances per game, especially against the top teams.

Biron has obviously a much smaller sample size with the Rangers, then he had with the Flyers. Not to mention he's generally playing against second tier teams.

If your point is that Lundqvist wouldn't have a .940 save % and 1.80 gaa playing with the Flyers, I would agree with that.

And that there seems to be the narrative from the WIP fueled crowd of nincompoops.
Even a rare few have gone down this path in here.

They somehow believe that if he is struggling he shouldn't be allowed to be himself, be happy, or get comfortable. Then when they get all over him about it, they wonder why he cant get comfortable. As if when he has a bad game he should mope in the corner and be all sullen......Then they would rip him for that.

AND he still gives up goals on those chances. Furthermore he still gives up a soft goal here and there. It's minimized by the play in front . That's why his numbers and Bryzgalov's would exchange places if you switched their teams. If it wasn't the case Lundqvist would have done a lot more than get to the second round of the playoffs once in his career.

That team he plays behind now is NOT the team that's been there the first umpty ump years of his career. This is the best team he's had in front of him. A goalie doesn't steal a season or even a series, he steals a game here and there.

Or his team couldn't score one goal in regulation, overtime or a shootout yet he posted a shutout, kill him!

Gotta agree here. Lundqvist has been the bright spot through a number of really mediocre seasons for the Rags.

I'm not talking about all those other years, even though he did play on playoff teams and has only been past the first round once. But yes a goalie doesn't steal a season or a series just a game here and there. I've read and heard how bryz hasn't stolen a game yet this season until last night when he's had plenty of one goal allowed games. Does the fact he has cost the flyers about 5 or 6 games this year erase the other games he's been a huge factor in winning? I guess it does with some.

He's really skinny and his suits are fitted to make him look even skinnier and he has a GIANT pumpkin of a head. I find it really amusing the lighting and background they used on NBC when they interview him. It's like they are trying to make him the ultimate dreamboat. Not that he isn't adorable. But I don't think they really do that with other players, no matter how attractive they are.

Yes, you were talking about past seasons when I was reacting to this.
