Ehh slow day

Sadly, it's a legitimate question for next season.

Is this a hunch you have? Because I don't see any point in RDP being in camp, unless its for the purpose of letting him play his way off the roster and onto the waiver wire.

I have heard that Wang was very snake bitten by the Yashin buy out. He was against it & was told that it would be the best thing for the franchise... so far it hasnt really made much of a difference.. if anything it made us worse. He will not make that same huge sum money dump just to have to spend 4.5 million more on top if it to make up DP's salary.. cap wise.

By any chance, was this the reason for the first ban?

I figured that would be "the" reason. We missed 05-06 with him and I'd say 06-07 was more of the Ryan Smyth acquisition than him IMO.

Dont get me wrong, the rebuild is the better route... ill take 5 last place finishes, if it leads to 15-20 years of being legitimately competitive.

But Wang does not see the "things are better" NOW. He sees that he bought out a damn good player, a friend & the team hasn't gotten better.

The future is brighter.. but the last few years can not in any way shape or form be considered better.

True, but its painfully obvious right now that RDP is fifth (maybe even sixth if you think Koskinen is better than RDP) on the organzational depth chart in goal. Truth is, Wang is going to have to pay that salary whether RDP is on the roster or in Bridgeport. Thats why I think he actually cuts him this summer, especially if it won't count against the cap if the team ever improves to the point that Cap space will be important. If he cuts him, he only has to pay 2/3 of the remaining money, saving himself some out-of-pocket expense. He also does his friend a favor and gets RDP off Long Island, to allow him to try to resurrect his career somewhere else.

Honestly, I think that the buy out this summer, amnesty clause or not, is the best thing for both sides from both a financial and hockey standpoint.

As for 05-06 it was the year after the lockout & we lost our top 3 d-men.. the team was a mess

in 06-07..You don't think his 50pts in 58 games had anything to do with it? You don't think Jason Blake on his wing didn't help Jason that year?

you think it was Ryan Smyth's 18 games as an Islander?

i dont see how this is even a question.

Just the fact that none of us want him to play another game for the team.. should set off warning bells that he'll be back.

Prior to the buy-out: team built by Milbury/Smith

After the buy-out: teams built by Snow.

Yet, I don't see Wang firing Snow based on this. Besides, we all know whether he pays DP or not he's not spending over the floor until he gets a new arena or moves the team into one that generates revenue for him.

Excatly, pretty much anything the fan base wants the ownership and management will not deliver. They know better than us, didn't you hear?

they need to win four in a row AND hope the five teams in front of them lose all their games. They are only five points out, but they have to jump over five teams to get into a playoffs spot. They need to get ahead of a few teams in the standings before they can seriously think playoffs.
- Jethro09

While I agree it's a long (loooong) shot, if the Islanders were to win 4 games in a row, I'm pretty sure they would be right in the mix again considering how inconsistent the rest of the competition has been playing.

Doubtful. As it is the team finished lower in the standings than where they were when Smyth was acquired.

The crazy thing is, if the isles could make the playoffs, they'd play the blue skirts. It's nice to have that positive thinking, but I don't see the isles making it happen

Which probably means that Nabakov won't. He wants to know if he'll be the number one in order to sign here. If they tell him DP is still in the picture, he's gone.

Actually, I think Ricky was the main reason for 06-07 *dodges tomatoes*. Team took a huge nosedive when he got hurt and they didn't stabilize again until Nolan finally gave up on Dunham. The whole "elite goalie" stuff with Ricky is based entirely on that season. He played very well that year. Yashin was a waste. Sure the points helped, but where was he in the playoffs? Getting yelled at by Smyth for not caring, at least according to the rumors and conjecture.

They won't make it, unfortunately. Too many teams in front, they probably play each other a few times so one or two will be guaranteed points, and the Islanders simply haven't shown an ability to climb the standings this year. I'd rather they go the other way and get a better pick and focus on next season. I think they should have started that at the trade deadline. Heck, Tampa did and it looks like selling off players actually improved their playoff chances!

I'd love to play them in the first round. I think I said once before on here that I would probably lose numerous friends if they upset the Rangers

I just think Yashin is given more credit than he deserves from some fans. I don't think his buyout hurt this team one bit.
