Jumbo Joe of course.

In all actuality though, I'd go with Lidstrom, (healthy) Crosby, Toews, Chara, and, drum roll please....... Brenden Morrow.

Morrow's a very underrated captain in my mind. The 09-10 season when he missed the majority of the year, the Stars were one of the worst teams in the league. Plug him back in with no big additions, and the team was a playoff contender again, as they are this year despite not having Richards.

Better question...

Who is the best captain of all-time?

Will I sound like a homer if I say Stevens?

- _Zippy_

I'm taking Joe Sakic.

Great player. Hard Worker. Humble. And most importantly, a winner.

I don't believe he is any good seeing as to how he doesn't play for the Leafs.

And he is nothing like the great Dion Phaneuf you guys have.

He doesnt bring what other Captains like Chara, Pronger, Weber, or Backes bring.
- Richieattack18

All great players and captains, but imo Crosby's drive and determination to be the best brings out the best in his teammates and makes up for his lack of physical play. I'm not saying he is the best, but he is just as effective as any other "tougher" captain.

This was a classic attempt by ek to stir up all the Ranger haters out there & throw cold water on our first place team. He hates the Rangers & that they've beaten his beloved Flyers 5 times this season, 7 straight going back to last year.

Cally is not the best Captain in the NHL, he's the best Captain for HIS team, the right guy in the right place at the right time, all that matters.

Rangers fans here need to stop getting so defensive about this.

I think we can all agree Callahan's a great captain and that defining the word "best" for this situation is very subjective and kind of a grey area.

Name the only captain to lead a team to consecutive 4 Stanley Cup Victories and 19 consecutive playoff series in a row?

The same team who has not won a playoff series since 1993, right?

I hear you, more the point why ek has to stir up the haters, who love talking about what the Rangers can't do right now instead of what they are doing, winning hockey games at an exceptional rate.

He's good at it though, getting the hits & guys like me to comment in here who usually could give a flying (frank) about what this guy says.

Well, don't think for a minute you're the only one whose team gets bashed. The reality, is anytime a team is doing well, the haters (and bandwagoners) will be out in full force.

Can't tell you how many times I had to hear crap from opposing fans about how the Sharks would choke in the playoffs regardless of where they stood in the conference.... and unfortunately, they were usually right.

the way i look at is , Rangers have to play twice as hard to win , look how many ot games they are apart of, the min play offs start all teams will be going for gold. Rags are out 1st round vs Buff. The lack of talent in the line up will catch up to these guys watch , March will be a Disaster for NYR.
- Dojodan

What the (frank) are you talking about? most of their wins have come in regulation. Teams with lack of talent don't have 10 point conference leads at this point in the season and aren't 1st overall in the league. Nor do they have a +46 goal differential

Well, I have heard some excellent suggestions..Lindy, Chara, Toews, Backes, Alfi, etc. Here is where I draw the line however. If we are talking top 5, this wouldn't matter. But any top 10 list has to include Shea Weber. I would put him at 9th or 10th at the moment. Weber has to lead a team past the 2nd round for him to get any further on the list. And it wouldn't hurt if he resigned with Nashville to prove he is for the team and not just himself. But to even suggest Callahan is the best Captain? Not sure about that. I wouldn't put him ahead of Weber at this point in his career for sure. If he leads NYR to the Cup, my impression will change. But NYR's haven't exactly been a playoff juggernaut recently.
