I don't know if you guys in the couve are lightweights or something. But, here in the BUF we have no problem starting early and going late. I'm going with Jamesons, and some IPA that NFPH recommended.

Paajarvi... Comprehending isn't one of your strong suits is it? Hopkines, Hall, Paajarvi... I was listing the difference makers from the past 5+ years and yet you guys still suck... Are all oil fans this brick headed?

I think it's from drinking the water that leaks into the basement. This one in particular was willing to make a very large bet that the Oilers would win the division this year.

HAWKS...
#3 overall - 2004
#7 overall - 2005
#3 overall - 2006
#1 overall - 2007

PENS...
#5 overall - 2002
#1 overall - 2003
#2 overall - 2004
#1 overall - 2005
#2 overall - 2006

OILERS...
#6 overall - 2007
#22 overall - 2008
#10 overall - 2009
#1 overall - 2010
#1 overall - 2011

To say the Oilers are an example of a team who could not pull off a rebuild isn't fair at all... I think people forget that the Hawks/Pens didn't do it overnight. You're blinded by the teams they're icing at the moment.

- laughs2907

Two of those blackhawk picks weren't even a part of the teams success... They became a top team a very quickly after toews and kane. LOl at Cam Barker and Jack Skille being examples. If anything this proves that tanking every year is a crap shoot and not worth it!

I once provided a list for another poster of all the 10th overall picks from 1981 on. You'd be surprised at how few of them became impact NHLers. Outside of the top 3 or 5, nothing is guaranteed. As guys like Daigle and Stefan showed, even being 1st overall guarantees nothing. 2nd year of rebuild=yes, we still suck. why people are shocked by this is beyond me.

They have to eventually believe that after getting the number 1 pick two years straight that they would be a top team lol! Maybe the 3rd number 1 pick will be the charm? Who knows hahahaha! Knowing them they will draft a forward over D...

Taking this the next step, Edmonton is coming to us with this offer. We have no reason to trade Myers, so it looks like we will be enjoying that existence together.
- nfph

Came to you and set up an overpay because of it...

you have not quite 7 mil in cap space, Ennis will get some of that...so will Kaleta...there is not much wiggle room to add guys and trading players still means taking some back in most cases. I can see the Oil being borderline playoffs next year with or w/o Myers. I see Buffalo in the same spot. Difference? Edm is going up yet Buf is staying the same.

here is one way you can open up, have a future and add top talent to the system.

Either or...I don't blame you for wanting to keep him...

well they weren't getting any better going how they were. i'd rather endure a few years of suck with a chance to be good for a while than continue to endure the mediocre status quo we had for a long time.

We stay up until 4am to watch Canadian junior games in Latvia, so it's nothing for us. I just know the EST fans don't catch a lot of west coast games because it's past their bed times. It's a good deal to have this one on the weekend at least.

Toronto makes us play at 4pm on Saturdays when the Leafs come to visit. It's demeaning.

It doesn't bother you that your team is one of the biggest jokes in the league? With all that talent on O? I would love love love to have Eberle,Hall,Hopkins, and even Gagner on my team! The sabres haven't had a top 5 pick since 03 yet they managed to go to the conference finals and win the presidential trophy... Also The wings are another example of not having to tank to be a top team!

I wouldn't disagree, but in general the quality of players just gets better the higher up you go. If you look at the current list of top scorers in the NHL, most of them went pretty high in the draft. Top 10 and top 5. Its definitely where you want to draft, and then hit with lower picks that turn into stars a la Eberle, Myers, Karlsson etc.

You said Ebs @ #22.....nothing about PRV....as quoted

3 years of having a top 10 pick and you guys are still one of the worst teams in the league.. Plus Sam Gagner was a top 6 pick in 07 and you guys got Eberle at 22 in 08! Since the 05/06 year you guys have been a pretty bad team and still are with all that top 10 picks. Your telling me it takes 6+ years of tanking to become a top team? lol

did my research... did you?

- Smittyx36

so again, how does a #22 pick becomes top 10?
must be too hard for you...

Yes but looking at the Sabres do you think they are a bad team? And now with two 1st rounders and 2nd rounders this year its looking even better. I don't think we are a cup contender but i do believe we are a top 5-8 team if we played the way we are playing now all year...

I hate the idea of tanking even if there is a chance at something big!

Since the lockout it seems that top 5 picks rarely tank...

Honestly this is a really stupid argument.

The Oilers have some really really good young talent, that in a year or two is going to catch fire and be really dangerous. Hall, Eberle, RNH, Paajarvi are all gonna be can't miss players it seems, and Gagner is playing great with the extra help on the wing... Honestly, the Oiler fans should be excited about their future.

You remember wrong friend...I was NEVER saying Edm was gonna win...and If I remember right the Canucks fan was the one wanting to lay down mortgages and then bailed out when he had to pay for lawyer fees.

I wanted to see how far he wanted to actually take this...called his bluff.

Fair to say Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek had a pretty significant impact on your success in 2007 though.

I'm also not happy that you lost in the 1st round last year. Totally wrecked me in my playoff pool.

So as a loyal sabres fan you are okay with finishing at the bottom for the next 3-4 years!? This isn't a dumb argument at all. I'm 21 years old and I don't wanna wait till I'm 25 to see my team make a run at it...

People have been saying they will catch fire for the past 2-3 years!
