I'm with you when it comes to JVR. I just don't get it. The trade JVR movement has been going on since his second yr in college. i think it would be a major mistake

Third year is generally a big year for young players in their development, before the injuries hit him, JVR was on pace for a 25-30 goal breakout year. Unfortunately his season has been derailed by injuries. Basically a total washout.

Next year his cap hit nearly triples, he has to have a healthy productive season where he at least produces 50 points. It's risky paying guys based on what they might do, and not what they have done. JVR has done nothing his first three years to validate the contract he was given, Flyers are hoping he reaches his potential.

With the contract James Neal just signed, this JVR contract doesn't look great at the moment.

Wasn't just here, though. I know most people here were tongue-in-cheek about it.

But there were any number of idiots -- the type that angrily yell "hit somebody!" when the team has allowed 2 harmless shots in the last 10 minutes and "shoot!"when there's a maze of players and no angle for a shot -- who were popping up on other message boards, Twitter and (of course) WIP to accuse JVR of malingering the concussion.

Usually I just let that sort of stuff slide, but that made me angry. JVR didn't deserve that. Criticize his inconsistency, sure. Say the injuries are not an excuse for his so-so production, OK. But accuse him of malingering? That's way, way over the line.

Exactly. He's not faking an injury to stay here. He's faking an injury to get traded to the Rangers this summer

Bill has to be much more diplomatic about it, but people are impatient and stupid.

I dont like the contract either and i dont feel he should be getting more money than Giroux or any of those other guys when he hasnt proven much yet...I gotta see him a full season healthy before i make my mind up on him.

This is never going to change. It's been like this since the beggining of time. I checked on another message board just to see what was being talked about. And I read what a waste of a player Carle is. And it's not just one person. It's a large percentage of posters on that board. Well that tells me how much time I want to spend on there.

hey bro! your being a little harsh dont you think? I have no appreciation for players that are born with a silver spoon in their mouths and dont do squat...regardles of his pace you cant take out that small sampling of game and project him out to be a 30 goal scorer even if healthy....

look at Blake Wheeler (picking out a big guy)...first 3 yrs 127 points in 244 games (.520 ppg). this year he is really starting to come into his own....52 points in 64 games (.828). I just wish people would be patient....and more importantly, i hope the Flyers are patient.

Every team has a whipping boy the fans hate on.

Flyers fans are no different then any others.

Wheeler is a great guy to compare him to. Bruins may have given up a tad early on Wheeler for sure. Peverley is a nice player, but Wheeler can be really good.

Hopefully JVR has a Wheeler like season next year.

True, but what you can take is a normal career progression for comparable players coupled with the first six weeks of this season and say there is a good chance he'd have at least flirted with 30 goals if he'd stayed healthy and productive.

I dont know bill there were too many games where he was invisible. That might have been becuase of his injuries and what not. To me the true indicator of his effectiveness is that the team doesnt seem to be missing a beat with out him.

Blake Wheeler has blossomed into their most consistent offensive player. While it's not a given that any player fully reaches their potential, there are so many examples to draw from and stats that show he's progressed (despite battling injuries).

Just sucks that he broke his foot. Even if he can come back for the playoffs, he's going to be so rusty from not being able to skate much.

Look at the Season that Neal had last year. He had 22 goals and 23 assists. And he scored 1 goal in 20 games with the Pens. Obviously some adjustment there needed to be made. Now he's nearly a point a game player this year. There are some loose comparisons that can be made between the two.

Possibility that JVR won't be able to skate for like a month, and won't be in top game shape. And he'll try and play as soon as he can to help the team. And he will be criticized for his play. Similar to how players were also criticized in the recent past for playing when not being even close to 100%.

If the forecasts of 6-8 weeks are accurate, Flyers would have to win a round before JVR would even be a possibility. And like you said, he won't be able to skate so his conditioning level goes back to zero etc...
