The level of his head does change, by a lot. If Letangs stays verticle Nystrom catches him the chest. Letang is 6'0, Nystrom is 6'1. Even in a skating position that puts them at the same size. In order for Nystroms bicep to hit Letang in the face their has to be some change in level.

You miss the point I am making. Do not pick apart one little thing. Yes Letangs head is lower. But its lower the whole time. Before Nystrom is even there. Before Nystrom changes course from puck to Letang, his head is at the same level. Therefore, long before Nystrom decides to punish him in the head, Letang is vulnerable. Nystrom had two choices. Play the puck, spin around and establish position, or plough through and smoke a vulnerable player. My point remains true that Letangs head never lowers further from when he comes of the previous check to even poking the puck...he pokes it in a way as to not pull his head down last minute. His face remains up and straight.

Honestly it is done and over with. Your point has been made with clarity. It is just tiring to read the same argument recycled 3 and 4 times.

I've seen it enough thanks. In the end though, these conversations always go the same way, usually a group of the home fans versus everyone else. It won't change how you see it to discuss it more and I'm cool with that. I've given my opinion as a fan who has no love or hate for either player or team and given my point of view of what I saw. You can state it is clear as day, but you're invested. I see it differently. I see it the same way Shanahan does.

I'm telling you though, flat out, if I was Letang and I did what he did and got hit the exact same way, I'd be the first to say I screwed up and I should have both left the puck and braced myself for the hit. That'll be my last comment on the matter because we're just going to continue going round and round.

Until the NHL follows the NFL by putting the onus on the guy hitting and not the guy receiving the hit, there will always be these "gray area" debates. Take any interpretation out of it. Make contact with a guy's melon, get suspended. The game will be less physical, but at least the stars will be more healthy.

Even though I love the game, in many ways, the NHL is still a garage league run by fools.

OR EXREMELY good for a fighter??? Let's look at it in the most positive light!!!

- walshy66

True lol...

Looking at his numbers, he's had more fights this season than his last four seasons combined (at least according to the numbers on hockeyfights.com).

He's 6' 3" 216 lbs, at first glance he looks like one of those guys who re-invents their game when they realize that they won't get to the NHL on talent alone.

Right now, it is awesome, sun, going into the 60's. Strong storms rolling in later. Snow by Sunday I believe.

Lotsa coaching for me this weekend, can't wait. Playoffs coming.

Mark Madden had a good tweet on this concussion topic. He said anytime a concussion occurs in the NHL, it's never a star concussing a scrub. It's always a player concussing someone above his line. Makes sense.

In general yes, but my favorite defensemen I am sure has doled out some concussions, and right now is suffering from quite a serious one.

Chasing one might be fun, but let me tell you that being rudely awakened at 3am to sirens going off and having to grab 2 dogs and a cat on the way to the basement is not fun.

I agree, would prefer if it was in the plains on a long stretch of nothing-ness, no chance of anyone being harmed, either lives, or property. Even if it is just for 5 minutes, just to do it.

Kinda the point of this blog...and topic. To discuss the hit, not other random things. I am very sorry that I ventured in here to discuss the hit. Seemed the appropriate place?!?

It is the appropriate place. You have discussed it, but its at the agree to disagree point.

I can only speak for me but the topic is so boring and played out. Its the same conversation over and over again, just different teams and different players.

If you want to keep going, have at it, but I don't know how it could still be interesting
