Why should we compare with worse?

Let's compare to the scandinavian countrys, France and Germany instead.

It's almost free in France, and it's a much better system.

Then move there.

From a simple money point of view, the total amount the government will make from this raise will be a little higher than 1% of the actual educational budget.

We'd be fools to think it would fix anything.

Québec spends more than Ontario in subventions for corporations, and Ontario has much more revenues.

maybe companies need those extra incentives to operate in an area where employee burdens are heavier, where they have to deal with political bullpoop and where they have less quantities of skilled workforce.

I don't think there's such a big difference between Ontario and Québec in that department, my friend.

The only difference is the tax rate.

I mean, in proportion it would be fine to spend more than Ontario given that 'problem', but not in numbers. That's just completely illogical.

The potential benefit this raise could lead to is minimal compared to the wrong it could do.

well there are many factors so tough to isolate one.

lot more R&D goes on in Quebec specifically becasue there are very beneficial incentives to operate such a business.

In Ontario and Toronto specifically you find a lot more customer oriented businesses, sales, banking, finance etc which would gravitate to the economic hub regardless.

I know I work for a company myself that has all it's R&D operations in Quebec and all its sales offices in Ontario specifically for that reason.

Without those incentives from Quebec the place shuts down within a week and 1800 people are out of work.

I can't see how Québec is such unappealing to the big corps man. Especially considering our strong economic status (partly due to the rigid banking rules in Canada) and since we have loads of ressources.

I hope one day companies will have to pay us to come in here, not the inverse.
