Ive been missing the beginning of games lately. I'll take your word on it if your attributing it to effort. It's something that certainly needs to change.

Put it this way, the Coach called time out what, 3 minutes into the game tonight? It which according to Hartnell, Laviolette told the players who ever isn't ready to play, won't be playing.

However, I will mention this, Bryz is the type of goalie who can carry a team. He is very talented and I really like the way he is playing. He stood very tall during some critical moments of the game.

Maybe he should do that in the locker room before they even take the ice for a shift. Whatever it takes to get them ready.

Jagr:

"We should put Bob in for the first shot, then put Bryz in after."

"After the first shot he is the best goalie in the league."

- MBFlyerfan

New strategy. Win the opening draw back to one of our d-men. That d-man immediately turns and lobs the puck into the crest on Byrz's sweater.

Get that first save out of the way immediately and settle him down.

He was great tonight. And I'm really glad to be saying that. I don't care who the opponent was.

Oh yeah, he was on fire. Said Lavi was very encouraging during the time out, had nothing but quiet positive things to say.

I tell you, the dude is NOTHING like Ive heard about him all these years.

Here's one thing I'll tell you. A team that is committed to checking, puck support, and team defense, will, the majority of times. Dictate play to an aggressive, forechecking, offensive team like the Flyers. Count on it.

i agree. what is most disconcerting over the last month is how poorly they have started games. 9th in a row giving up the first goal tonight, and again inside of the first 5 minutes. they're not focused, not ready to start. can't play from behind every single night and expect to win. only once in the last 35 games have they been ahead at the 10 minute mark. 35 games. that's half a (frank)ing season.

I think that's a really good idea. I'm sure he is doing something to that end. I would think that a team that has given up the first goal of the game as many times as they have recently, would be looking to fix that. And be ready to play at the opening puck drop.

the first shot against, bryz actually stopped. but it was another clear shot from the top of the circle with no flyers around. i actually said lava should call a timeout right then. couldn't believe it that i was actually right

Its crazy how flat they come out of the gate. You almost expect them to be down 1-0 within five minutes of the first period. Too much talent to allow it to keep happening.

they have a ton of fire power and it makes up for a lot of their defensive shortcomings, but eventually they have to start defending like they give a damn. can't have 2 forwards at the line or neutral zone when still trying to get the puck out.

Losing JVR sucks ...but it's not like it's a huge loss considering he has been a non factor all season.

I do like how the coaching staff is using all the d-men. It seems they are intentionally reducing Kimmo's minutes, which is a good thing. However, I have full confidence in Kubina and Grossman eating up those minutes.

I really, really, like the Flyers' top 6 d-men.

It is a big loss. With the trade deadline past and that worry over, he could have played and gotten his game where it needs to be heading into the playoffs. Not much chance of that happening now.

Those are remarkable numbers.

You can get away with it against the Islanders ... sometimes.

Its losing depth that hurts. Do you think the Flyers will go the final 20 games without suffering another injury to the forwards? Basically no chance. Then you are back to 7+ rookies in the lineup again.

Next year is JVR's 4th season, his cap hit almost triples, he has to at the very least be a 50 point player next year to start the process of validating the contract.
